I am also unsure who Tort was addressing, but to answer the question, mine is from Rob Zombie. I am not entirely sure that it is his work, however...I thought I detected a Lovecraftian interpolation there. I should google it just to see...

Been a few years since last I read it, but it reminds me of The Pit And The Pendulum to a degree. Zombie would be just as likely to have pulled inspiration from the Smurfs, however.
