problem with JRSC???

i remember my last encounter with noise coming from inside the SC. The encounter left me ripping apart the blower and finding loose bearings and metal shavings all over the place. It cost me $800 for the rebuild. When i got it back, it look so new again. It was so prutty. Not to mention, it ran like new again. Anyways for $800, it better be like new again.

Are you sure it is noise coming from inside the blower? Because the JRSC is naturally noisy. If it was something from inside, you will definately know. There will be no mistake in the audible difference. Thats the worst case scenario, but lets all cross are fingers that that is not the case.


Oh ya, and one more thing, why dont you pop the hood to see if the belt is loose. Stick your fingers in and see.

When I'm driving the teg today, I heard a light rotor grinding some from the JRSC. It seems like it's coming from the pulley of the charger. I thought the belt might have slip or snapped. But I think the belt is still there. What could the problem be?

What type of noise were you encountering? Did JRSC warranty the charger?

i check the belt. It's still there and not loose.

I'm pretty sure the sound is from the charger. Just a tapping sound.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">the sound came from the inside of the nose pulley area. it sounded like bbs rattling in a hard plastic container. i was not aware of the warranty of the time, because my bro bought the charger and he was away at sea.

i just paid the $800 to get it fixed. lemme give you a run down of what happened to me:

the charger started making noise (the rattling bbs) and that went on for about a month. it was an on and off noise. then the noise just wouldnt go away anymore. it was accompanied by a tremoendous loss of power. the loss was so bad that even if i took out the jrsc, i would have more power. i knew the jrsc was f$cked. i drove around with the jacked up jrsc for about another month. though it was jacked up, it still got me from point a to point b. then when i finally got fed up with it, i just pulled out the charger and opened it up. the rotors and bearings were all tore up. metal shavings and loose bearings all over the place.

if the charger goes out on you, you will definately know. good luck, and keep your fingers crossed.

Before you go nuts and rip the blower out, check the SC idler pulley - I thought my charger was bad, and I had one of the old aluminum pullies that had bearings go... the new plastic pulley has been fine for 2 years.

How do I check the SC idle pulley? What am I looking for? Am I checking if it spin freely?

my idler pulley also malfunctioned, it got crossthreaded and dug itself out the bracket hit the concrete when i was driving, bounced back up and hit my block and landed in my front bumper. had to get a replacement bracket and pulley from jim.

I've had two noises from my JRSC.

The first was a low pitched rattle that sounded like a bad clutch throwout bearing, especially with the A/C on, and it still makes this sound after using the JRSC for over 85,000 miles.

The second was a definite bearing sound, high pitched, but not like belt squeal. At first it was intermittent and went away after warming up, but then became constant. The sound finally stopped when the pulley bearing seized. This was on the lower alt-crank belt tensioner. Replaced it and the sound went away...

Is the lower alt-crank belt tensioner same as the sc idle pulley?

I would think the sc idler pulley you're talking about is the upper tensioner, alt-sc rather than crank-alt...

I couldn't figure out if it's the pulley or the charger that's busted. That tapping sound only happens after the car is warm up.

How do I determine if the pulley is bad?

I could hear it from the cabin.

does anyone knows a good and trustworth place in the bay area to take the car to?

That's definitely not normal sounding, and I would say it's probably not the pulleys either...

arrr..that's what I'm afraid of.

Have you tried to warm up the car and then disconnect the crank-alt belt? Isolate the crank-alt and alt-sc group from the engine itself. That noise almost sounds as if it could be from the engine too...

I took out the sc-alt belt today. The rattling sound went away and there is some free play at the charger pulley. I can move it by hand. I guess my bearing is gone.

spidermancivic, where did you have your charger rebuild? Did you send it back to jackson racing?

Have you guys heard of superchargeronline.com? Should I send it there?

What are my other options?

Have you considered that it might be your alternator that has gone bad? When my bearings went bad in my alternator, it sounded horrible.

Hmmmmmmmm, my problem was worse than just the bearings being bad. Maybe the nose pulley just isnt any good? Make sure that it is internally the blower, because a rebuild is expensive. You can call Jackson Racing and get a qoute and research your options www.jacksonracing.com . They actually send it to a place called Magnusum (I think thats the place that does the actual rebuild). If you are seriously considering a rebuild, you can also opt to buy a used blower on ebay. I have seen them there a few times. You can probably save yourself $200 - 300 buying it used and hopefully not too abused.

You should also pm Jim about your situation since he has alot of experience with the JRSC. He may have ran into a few of his customers who may have had a possible bad blowers. Im not sure if he is fimiliar with the internal repairs of the blower but his experience may guide your decisions a little better.

I have spent alot of money on my JRSC from the rebuild to the belt changes to all the supporting mods. Coughing up $800 for a new rebuild is a pain in the a$$. For what i spent i could of got a very nice turbo setup, but i choose to go the JRSC route because I just wanted to see how far I can go with it. If the blower is bad (definately make sure it is) then just realize that you are at a crossroad where you can choose a different route if you wanted to.

My mechanic looks at it and believe that it's the charger puller or bearing. Because there are free play on the charger pulley after the belt is removed.

My SC-alt belt is out. Is it save to drive the car? I probably need to drive to about 5 miles to a mechanic. Would it be save? Thanks

It'll be safe, but it may be sluggish with anything more than half throttle...

my PS and Alt-Charger belt slipped off before because of the bolt crossthreaded, i didnt have any problems driving it, but i kept it out of vtec, and i had to drive it 100 miles to the shop. so u should be fine, just be easy with it.

does anybody know if there is a removal instruction for the blower?

I can download the install instruction but not sure how to follow it when removing the charger. I don't think it'll be as easy as reversing the instruction. Any help will be great.
