Anyway, I haven't smoked in 2 weeks!

Many congrats!!! I NEED to hear things like this.
I have roughly two weeks to finish weaning myself off the smokes. So far it's going pretty well, I've cut my cunsumption to less than half of what I used to smoke. My cutoff date is August 6th.
If I haven't finished weaning by then, I go cold turkey. I have no choice if I wish to go on living.

DP, your case is literally life or death. You're right, you've got no choice if you want to continue living - living not as an invalid or a huge drag to your family.

I had been wondering how you had been doing DP. To be honest, you were one of the factors that made me just pick my date and do it. That thread in general made me think about it more. I'm glad to see that you have been hanging in there. Picking the date and sticking with it was the most important part of this whole thing. I still say it would be great help if everyone on the board decided to quit together.

I really have to treat it like a mourning process. It's like a death in itself. Never being able to smoke again.

Congradulations to you Shypapette! I have witnessed how hard it can be to quit (my wife used to smoke).

Glad that you have gotten the upper hand on it! Especially if it is going to help Darth Pooh in his quest!

type thing. Kind of like the various 12 step program's "One day at a time" mentality. My psyche

I agree with your philosophy DP, one day at a time. I don't smoke, but I have to do that with myself for things like trying to keep on my exercise program (it's tough to want to work out after working all day... just wanna flop, ya know?), and for keeping a positive frame of mind (you know, convincing myself the world doesn't suck and isn't just a great big cesspool). [img]wink.gif[/img]

Thanks to all of your congradulations.
I completely agree with the one day at a time strategy, however I think it's a little of both. You have to think one day at a time, but still, the only way this was going to work for me was if I started getting used to the fact that there was no more smoking for me. I think if you're too easy on yourself it's way easier to cheat. Just my process anyway.

Not really. I picked the date I was going to quit, and then I just stuck with it. I suprised myself though, I didn't use as much niccorette (sp?) as I thought I was going to.
