Just a quick note on this.. I sent my brother-in-law this link and he is one of the music critics for the ?Austin Chronicle? and he passed it on to his editor..

I am not a Nickelback apologist nor a fan, but in the interest of full disclosure it should be known that those songs were altered to make that clip. Decide for yourself if the alterations are enough to make the assertion that the songs are the same false.

Let's clear up the debate. I will tell you what i did to the songs.
First, Someday is in the key of A. I had to raise it a semitone to make it in B like How You Remind me. So pitchshifter is used for that.
on to tempo. 15-20 bpm? try less than 1. I worked with percentages, and i had to speed up HOW YOU REMIND ME, NOT Someday, and i sped it up by 1/2%. Not much difference, huh? my guess is they did that with the tempo so some guy like me would have a tougher time doing it than if they did BOTH exactly the same tempo. Only AS CLOSE TO EXACTLY as possible, they did [img]tongue.gif[/img]
now on to the actual SONGS. How You Remind Me has a longer outro. by about 8 bars. So i cut those 8 bars out. Note that they don't change keys or do anything at all in those 8 bars, they wre just extra (so no, that is NOT a valid point as to calling it a different song). Then, in one verse, HYRM goes one bar longer, and in another verse Someday goes 1 bar longer as well. So those bars were taken out so they match up.
All in all, it wasn't much editing, and YES they used EXACTLY the same chords through the whole songs, and that is rediculous (to the guy who posted before me, i don't know what you were listening to, but those are the same chords.... they are no different). Obvious formula. Made a hit once? WHY NOT MAKE IT AGAIN! just gotta change the melody. Most people are idiots anyway and only pay attention to the melody in the first place. It's gross how no one really noticed just how similar they were just by listening. GROSS. anyway, that's all. Don't know if i will check back here or not, but if you got any more questions, go ahead and ask.

Tons of pop songs use the same or very similar chords. Even most jazz-based tunes are written over familar and time-tested forms/chord structures...
