Hw many of you record with the new RODE microphones? I record with it a couple of weeks ago, and they are the only microphones you ever will be needing, believe me, the are amazing. Very transparent and a very fat sound, amazing microphones, I'm thiking buying a geat set for me.
VInnie uses them. Go to their website and check the audio demos, he plays on most of them.

A] Shure SM57s / MayEA "cutoffs" ["half"-mics pro-mounted inside each shell] for sn & toms [img]redface.gif[/img] , & the AKG-D/112 "football," both of which came w the purchase of the Gretsch acoustic kit, back end of '85
B] whatever the soundman/company provides
or
B] An electronic set [no mics at all] ;c)

i used a Rode mic to record a vocal earlier today ..a really impressive bit of kit and very easy to recommend anything Rode after that.
I remember that years ago my guitarist bought an amazing pair of Rode NT-1's and they were the most amazing overheads I have ever heard.
We turned one of the mics on as it was raining outside (we were inside, of course) and just listened to the rain falling onto the roof - IT SOUNDED HUGE! Imagine if your hearing was to improve 10x - that's what this was like!
I borrowed them for a session and it they were sweet - didn't even need to mic the toms at all!

What Studio Projects mikes do you use? What do you use as overheads. I have a lot of mikes already (SM57's AKG C418's, AKG D112, SM 98, PEAVEY 408, and others) but want to get a Audix D6 for kick and was thinking of Rode NT1A's for overheads. I figure I might as well ask these questions here.

The D6 is a great little mic.
As for studio projects, I have used and still use the C1 and the C3 as overs and they are very clean and clear sounding.
when I have to record over at a friends place I usualy bring my mics and use these as overs, we set up in his entry way which is tiled and get a really nice sound.http://www.studioprojects.com/why.html

They are good, but so are Studio Projects which are in the same price range.

So you are using one C1 and one C3 overhead? I've read really good things about them.
A friend records with a B1 for vocals and it sounded good too - and at under $100 is downright amazing.
Yes, they gave me 1 of each and being the mics are identical outside of the C3 having a switchable pattern, they work well together.
I use Rode NT1a's for recording birds and frogs. They are quiet, clean and accurate. For a low cost mic' they are pretty damned good. They work well on drums too. The NT1a's are an updated version of the NT1, and reputedly much improved. I have also used a pair of NT4's (or was it NT5? same thing, different case), to record a gig. They are very excellent value. A bit bright, but nothing a little EQ wouldn't fix. All Rode mic's are wholly made in Australia and are all good.

I have NT1000 on toms and NTK as overheads Shure SM57 on Snare top and bottom and Shure SM81 in hi hat and 2 Beta 52 on bass drum (in side the bass drum and in front of hole) I don't know how to post it on the internet...
Here's a recording tip for micing the underneath of the snare drum for you recording guys out there:
instead of the typical point a 57 or similar up towards the drum, take a mic like this http://www.audixusa.com/acrobat/ADX51.pdf or similar (akg, shure) and place it about 3" from under the drum but instead of pointed at the drum, place it parallel with the floor and vertical with the kic drum. This gives you both bottom head sound BUT also gives you beater attack from the batter side of the kic drum, which many times you have to add via eq from the inside mic track.
Good tip.... I really like the sound of the resonance of the snares with bass drum, and on ghost notes. Especially gated and with a bit of distortion maybe.
I know we're getting off topic here but.....
I've had good results miking up the shell of the snare with something like a AKG 414 ( as well as the usual top and bottom snare mics)....it makes sense really - the shells resonance is really important.
Maybe one day I should start a thread for everone to leave their recording tips....

I've had great results using the NT1's as overheads and even ambiant room mics.
By the way, I heard an Electro Voice RE20 for the first time in a bass drum tonight and it blew me away! It was the damn nuts!!!

RE20 in the kic drum is a superb choice but not everyone has access to it due to the cost.
I have a clip of nt 1000 om toms and Ntk as oveheads
but internet will not make them any justice.
I think i have the K2 inthe bassdrum

Altho the vid wasn't in sync w the aud in the QT DL. But the aud was cool nevertheless.
