Bring back the Sinthetics!!
... i actually DO like the songz though if i'm honest... well... i like them a BIT haha! I'd prefer to see Lonny still doing the Sinthetics stuff.
Heh, ummmm, I was trying to figure out why Marky was linking to a Nu Metal band! Lonny is obviously one of those that if he makes it will be hiding from his past.
Kinda funny though, as he is still sporting a bit of a Glam look.
Yeah, he didn't mention hiz previous background haha!
Also... upon further listen to this stuff, i now hate it... the more i listen, the more i hear fucking Linkin Park.. urgh!
POOR LONNY, SEEMS HE CAN'T FIND HIS WAY!!! IT EXPLAIN CUZ MY LOVED IDOL CAN'T STAND MORE THAN A FEW MONTHS IN EVERY DIFFERENT MUSICAL GENRE (CALL IT FUNKY/POP/NU METAL/MODERN POWER POP/PUNK) WITHOUT TOO MUCH SUCCESS IN ALL 'EM!!!
I USUALLY ASK MYSELF HOW MANY FANS ON THOSE GENRES CARE ABOUT HIM LIKE MANY OF US FROM HIS SHAMEFULL MUSICAL PAST IN THOSE EARLY HEART THROB MOB'S DAYS!!!!
BTW SEEMS IT'S A CONTAGIOUS PSYCHOPATY AND DEV STATE WENT INFECTED!!! LOL!!! THANX GOOD GIVIN MR MICHAELZ GOT THE ANTIDOTE!!!
Marky,
I'm with you brother...What is he thinking? It's not bad music, but it's NOT the Lonny and Dev we know...At least we have our old demos!
Let's hope that soon he returns to his musical home, glam/punk/pop!
By the way, did you get my email???
Sandi
O.K., stupid guy time, who is Dev and who was he with?
And I agree, Traci just seems more and more impressive and cool as the years go by. To be as dedicated as he is to this style of music is DAMN impressive! Even if somebody doesn't like the music he does, we should all buy his stuff just out of respect.
AGREE CARL!!! DEV STATE WAS THE HEART THROB MOB BASSIST ON THE HIT LIST'S DAYS!!! AND YEAH SANDI I GOT YER EMAIL AND I'M ON THE REPLY'S WAY!!!
IN CASE YA DIDN'T NOTICE HE'S INVOLVED WITH LONNY IN THIS PROJECT!!! MY GOD, I CAN'T REMEMBER AT LEAST, THE NAME OF THE BAND!!! DON'T LET ME DOWN!!!
you know what is interesting, if this was Butch Walker would the talk be different? i mentioned on the Letters thread that i wish Butch would go back to his tounge in cheek power pop style and i believe everyone (just about) was in defense of Butch saying if an artist keeps doing the same style he becomes stale, boring. so does this mean that as long as it's an 'acceptable' style then an artist can change his style or does this mean that certain people will just follow Butch around blindly no matter what he does?
i haven't listened to Lonny's new stuff but from the sound of the opinions here, i might like it. i love his voice and it sounds like it might be my type of sound. i agree with Andii though, i wish he would have done more with the Sinthetics. by far my favorite Lonny project.
not trying to be a smartass here (would i ever) but could someone explain to me the difference between what Lonny is doing and what Butch has done?
and Marky, I feel for ya. I know how much you love Lonny's older stuff, who knows, maybe one day he will drop everything and do a Heart Throb Mob type project again. That would probably draw pretty good in hollywood.
I agree with you Bill. I haven't heard the new Butch stuff, so I really can't say. But maybe people just relate better to what Butch is doing now, as maybe it still does stick to his old style to some degree. But this new Lonny stuff, I had no idea who it was I was hearing until I looked again. I mean, it doesn't SOUND like him really at all. I think that is the problem, it seems more of a "sell-out" as it is a drastic style change from what most here are used to Lonny doing.
Well I wasn't one of the people that liked Butch's new stuff. I liked the old Butch better, but I respect his motives when trying something new.
Lonny is in a similar boat to Butch, but to a slightly lesser degree. Lonny has been in Hollywood bands for fifteen years. From Tinsel Tots to Tilterworld, his bands have been extremely varied in styles and sounds. He obviously gained his greatest popularity with Heart Throb Mob, but he also years to be a "real" rockstar, not a glam community rockstar. I remember Lonny told me in '96 or '97 that when he put together Heart Throb Mob, he wanted "three other guys that would die before they would take the makeup off." He followed that up by saying "That's exactly what I got, and it cost me a record deal."
Lonny has evolved a lot musically, but yes it usually is done in an attempt to get a record deal. He is no longer interested in appealing to the Heart Throb Mob fan base. His goal is stardom, so he keeps changing bands and styles as soon as he realizes that what he is doing isn't getting him where he wants to go. The good thing is that after each one of these offshoot projects, he has returned to a more "familiar" sound. After his initial solo stuff that was very different, he did the Sinthetics which was very Lonny-ish. After the Superficials, he did the B-Flix, which again should appeal to HTM fans. Hopefully after this Tilterworld thing, he'll return again to catchy pop songs...
In the meantime, I will support his musical efforts regardless of what they are, even if I think they all pale in comparrison to HTM...
Sandi
LONNY CAN GO WHEREVER HE WANTS MUSICALLY TALKIN ABOUT AND I HAVE TO BE RESPECTFUL FOR HIS MUSICAL ORIENTATION (ALSO LIKIN IT OR NOT) BUT WHY TO HIDE MUSICAL PAST??? IT'S WHAT I CAN'T UNDERSTAND AND I'M NOT AGREE!!!
I just find it ridiculous though...when bands or musicians try to hide from their past....example with this new Lonny and Dev band...not once do they mention HTM.
i agree with you about hiding from the past but sometimes it's the record label that forces this. (not being the case for lonny since, well, he has no label) when J joined Dope he was told to grow facial hair and never to mention being in the Vampire Love Dolls to the point of never calling him by his name, only Acey, when i was around. Tripp also was told to never mention being in Roughhouse while he was in Dope but then again, that could be part his doing. He claims to be in his late 20's which would make him a little over 10 when the Roughhouse cd was released. Then add onto it that he joined Teeze in 1986 so his professional music career started at or before the ripe old age of 10. so i can see why he didn't want that out there. that puts him up there with anthony foxx and his charade.
the reason i got for all the mystery in the dope camp was that it would ruin Dope's street creds. this coming from a guy who built the creds on lies, how ironic.
Hince why the major record labels aren't as big as they were...Some musicians are tired of being told what and not to do...thank god for independent labels...maybe it's not a big label...but at least the musicians can be who they are.
Bill... u will like I'm actually headin over to their website as we speak to grab some more tunes
Saw the topic...saw the number of replies, and thought blimey this is a bloody long 'Erasure' thread!
I love Lonny and his vocals as much as the next man, but can't QUITE top Marky G! lol!, I gotta say that I agree that Lonny is out for bein' a star, which is surely a dream many artists have, we all know he has the talent and obviously he is workin' hard by puttin' out all these different lineups....
I do wonder tho' if he wouldn't be better just goin' along the Butch line of thought, I seriously think he could pull it off as a solo artist, he could then do music that isn't necessarily the latest sound but that in itself, could well be his 'unique selling point', you get music by Lonny that could only be Lonny, he is a talented musician in all areas and instead of setting up all these different projects surely this would be worth a pop? I'm not sayin' produce music 'like' Butch but just adapt that mindset, if he wanted to go the Sinthetics route, maybe he shoulda hung in there and evolved the sound and pushed a lil' harder...
I obviously don't have the answers but why flit from band to band TRYING to do something new and current if his OWN pure talent, in so many areas, could be staring him right in the face and there to be nurtured, he should forget everyone else and do what HE feels and I don't think his heart is in Tilterworld at all...
As for not acknowledging history i think that is wrong, history is what makes you, be it good or bad, you have to have a mix of both, its all a HUGE learning curve and you NEVER stop learning...
Just my 2pence worth!
