I just want to say what a privilege it is to play drums and listen to music/Vinnie. Today I got the sad news that my 74yr grandfather has two months to live(or so, whatever) He has been battling cancer for the past 8 months. He has a very rapid case and it has moved all through out his upper body. It's also very hard because I feel like I can't do anything being 1300 miles away.
Not to get mushy, but I am very thankful to play my drums... It was very hard to focus today so I put the Vinn-ster in "live at the B.P." and went to do some practicing....
Life is short, it's sad sometimes how we get that realization.

Tyson, I'm so sorry to hear of your grandfather's condition. I've had similar loss, and although it may not be of any condolence to you now, he'll be in a better place when all is said and done.
As far as playing, yes, I definitely agree what a blessing it is to be moved by, and have the ability to play music. What type of music does your Grandfather enjoy? My dad is 79, and is a big band fan. Maybe you could put a tape together of some of his favorite music, (maybe even get a few tracks minus drums, and play over them) and send them to him. That would let him know you're thinking of him, and he'd probably like to hear his grandson playing?

TysonNC, your grandfather will be in my thoughts and prayers. BennyAndTheSkins (a.k.a. Dave) has an excellent idea. I think it would mean a great deal to your grandfather to hear his grandson play drums, one of your favorite things to do in life.

...My grandfather [mother's side] was taken from us very suddenly & unexpectdedly...[my father's father passed from emphysema when I was very young]...& my folks & I were living 3 states away at the time...I'll never forget that fateful phonecall on that early eve one-week prior to Easter Sunday...
What I'm trying to say is, in my own "lack-of-better-words" way, is that you have a chance here to "make peace" [closure / tell him how you really feel, etc] w yours as I did not w mine, altho I would not wish it on anyone [other fam members & friends have passed from cancer AW]...one consolation is that you can let him know that you are with him there in spirit [& a phone call, recording, letter, package, or e-mail] & the two of you can be "on the same page" so to speak...
But until that time, dont ever give up...fight with him & for him, in his corner, in whatever way that you can, & let him know it [i know that you already know this]...my extreme prayers go out to you & yours in this time of need. Remeber that there are people here that heve it in their thoughts & prayers AW...

Thank you for sharing something that personal with us... it is a great privalage for us, having you share this. The fact that you can make something positive out of such a tragedy is a testament, and the fact you can share this with others is even more so.

Hey Tyson,
I was away for a few days, and just saw your post. I'm very sorry to hear of your Granddad's condition. Positive thoughts and hopes come from me as well! It's always a tough and stressful thing to go through. I lost my grandfather about a year and a half ago. I hope you'll stay positive, and maybe we could get together soon. Take care!
