I think their image STINX! in a big way, but there music is pretty kool, it took me a couple of spins to get into it , there's couple of weak trax and the CD wouldn't get preference over many of my tunes but yeh they get a thumbs up, well worth a listen...
Yeah, I saw a review feature on them in an issue of Metal Maniacs from about a year ago that I finally got around to reading...they sound interesting, but I've yet to listen to 'em. Any good?
Musically these guys are solid i think. Not sure on the whole image thing. Very much of a twist i must say. I'm getting into them i must say.
I saw them in London last year and they fuckin' rocked! Gig of the year by a mile.
And what's wrong with their image you lot?
I think their image is just WRONG! lol!
If your gonna have an image make the effort and get it right don't just let the local kids draw on yer face and dress you up in their grandads old clothes! lol!
If a jobs worth doin' it worth doin properly!
Wot do you know about image anyways Mr Blitz? lmao!!!!
I don't exactly think it's their intention to look cool. And frankly, who needs to when you've got a keyboard/guitar player who can bake a great pizza and play guitar with his helmet, and a singer who fires rockets out of his arse...
Well I gotta say you've got me there, that's fair play, I back down, anyone who can bake a pizza gets the thumbs up from me! lol!
Seriously though, don't judge them by initial impressions of their appearance but read a couple of interviews with them if you get a chance. You'll find that they're really having a dig at a lot of the pretentiousness inherrent in rock bands and, in particular, metal bands. Actually, if they weren't a band themselves they could probably make a living as comedians.
Oh, and their best album is definitely Apocalypse Dudes. A highly recommended racket.
Sounds kool, I shall delve a lil' further and get some further info, sounds interesting. I only have their Scandinavian Leather CD so maybe I better pick up 'Apocalypse' and check that out too...
Beware of any of the earlier stuff though. It leans far more towards hardcore punk and, quite frankly, isn't in the same league. They kicked off when Euroboy and Chris Summers joined the band.
Is it just me, or are the VERY Alice Cooperish? At times (the song "Turbonegro Must Be Destroyed" reminds me of Toilet Boys a bit. It's the voice really. I will be checking out more of them for sure.
Very Alice Cooper style make-up!
In fact, Alice wore EXACTLY the same style between 1970-1972. Can be seen very clearly on the "Killer" album.
The "spiders" style that preceeded the one that he is more famous for.
Turbo negro? 'Drenched in Blood' is a rip off of 'Just in lust' by the Wildhearts. And how can they call a track 'Turbo negro must be destroyed?'
I ask you?
The geordies will sue.
Yes, the chorus of 'Drenched In Blood' is alarmingly similar to the Wildhearts song. Virtually the same actually. Possibly a coincidence though? Maybe it's a tribute?! Turbonegro recently replied to accusations of plagiarism by claiming to have never even heard of the Wildhearts. I think their tongues were planted firmly in their...er...cheeks at the time however.
As for '...Must Be Destroyed', the Turbonegro track was written and recorded rather a long time before the Wildhearts album was released.
Stidi wildheart was telling me recently that they met T/N at a festival in Spain in September this year. T/N had originally denied any intentional similarity to Just in Lust but at the show they 'apparently' did admitt nicking it.
Naughty boys! Hope he give 'em a slap.
Actually, Bowie once admitted to me that he ripped off 'Blockbuster' on 'The Jean Genie'...
Only kidding.
...and they both ripped off Tobacco Road by the Nashville Teens....
...which came from I'm A Man by Yardbirds...
Absolutely. Hard to kill a good riff I suppose. Talking of which, and keeping on the original theme of this thread, Turbonegro's 'Get It On' sounds like Hanoi's 'Mental Beat', which sounds like Ramones' 'I Just Want To Have Something To Do' etc....
