I plan on entering one of those 48hour film contests. Its been so long since i've filmed anything, and I really miss it. I've just been damn busy scoring games... which is good - but I still miss directing!

Well, in the last week of August I intend to at least get through a first draft of (working title) Chi Xi Stigma. Right now it's about a dragon, a system administrator and a 2000 year old Greek philosopher who converses with a seashell called Lisa.

By September I should know if Crooked Features has been accepted into any more festivals of (semi)note, namely Raindance and Slamdance.

By this time next year I hope to be in preprod on Chi Xi Stigma whilst selling pressed DVD copies of Crooked Features and whoring/syndicating the rights to anyone who might be interested.

And I want to get rid of the last Windows XP computer from my house.

I now have ?20,000 (US $24,150), all of which was earned by working at a convenience store. This is, of course, money that I?ve put together for my new film.

A year from now I intend to have a bit more capital from investors (I?ve had just about enough of my shitty day job ? I should be spending someone else?s money), perhaps enough to bring the budget of ?The project? up to ?30,000 - ?40,000.

I hope to have convinced Nigel that my film merits his attention, and to have brought him on board. Perhaps we?ll have already finished principle photography this time next year. The reason the whole process has been so protracted is because of something quite poignant you once said to me that I took fully to heart:

I'll give you my final draft when I've finished writing it. It's very hard to say with any kind of certainty when that will be. You know how unpredictable the creative process can be.

I would like to get some kind of rough estimate of what you expect to get paid for the four or five weeks you and your Aaton camera will (hopefully) be here, bearing in mind that I'm giving you the following perks:

Understandably, you don't want to be in a place were you don't like the only food available. Putting the finishing touches to a short screenplay I've been working on for the last year (or two..). I will shoot August/September this year - if all goes to plan...

I'm securing actors (one confirmed, another partially confirmed, and two others still to find) and sourcing locations at the moment.

Peter--

I stand by those words fully to this day. Taking time and doing things right is the way to go.

The reason I started this thread was because I am getting ready for my self review. Every three years I sit back and try to be very critical of what I have done and what I think I could be doing. Then I make plans to reach those goals and set a date for another self-review.

One year from now I hope to be doing just as much work as I am now but I hope it to be more satisfying on a personal level--as well as an economic one. I am starting to say no to more jobs. I am starting to get paid better...So it seems to be working.

Thanks for your interest Christian. I intend to make a website to publicize the film to potential investors, actors and crew, complete with a .pdf of the script, brief synopsis for people who are too lazy to read the entire script, information on me and some other people attached to the project. When that happens I'll post something about it here.

I can tell you that the working title is ?Without Cheese?

Just putting finishing touches on "Two Birds..." for the New York Television Festival and then finishing "Helpless" (more on that in its own thread) and doing a news broadcast on an ECB bigshot in September which I intend to turn into a continuous revenue stream by setting up a financial news channel with my parent company. Let's see...

In a year, I'll have completed my first year of uni, be a fair way to being massively in debt, have a few good shows behind me and an exponentially increased DVD/soundtrack collection.

And perhaps a little liver damage from copious amounts of alcohol.

EDIT: Without Cheese is possibly one of the best titles I've ever heard.

Well, Ill guess Mortus Illumina will have been released by then.
and NDP Philo Cafe finished.
and Circus of the Damned will have been finished by then (although I said that a couple of years ago....)
Thats 3 big ole feature films.

Ill sit and watch em for old times sake and reminisce with a few beers, and be exstatic and amazed that we managed to finish them.

To be involved in any thing more over the next year will probably take up too much effort, but it depends on how the search for funding goes. Or what good stories/crews/opportunities come along.

Would definatly NOT break the cardinal rule of spending my own money on making a movie :-) again.

Over the next year... hmmmm...

Firstly, having recently quit my perfectly good (and well paid) job, after going through some self review (as Nigel mentioned above)... I am free to follow my digital pursuits!

I've submited Mirror Man for the Liverpool Film Festival! (curtinparloe, the deadline is the 31st July)

After that its off to Spain for a year (long story, girlfriend got a job over there) - also be working with Kigo (also from this forum, who moved to Spain) on various projects... including our first feature La Maison Du Noir.

So by this time next year, all pre-production will be complete - ready for production!

A year from now, hmmmm. I have a bigger plan, which I suppose this all fits into. I have an idea for a blockbuster movie which I hope to be my debut - but that I will only shoot when I have the right money & resources for it, that may not be until I'm an old man. Oh well. And I bet by THEN someone else will have made my movie [img]tongue.gif[/img]

I have three initial projects in mind, which I envisage as my three main "experience gaining" projects, tho my track record isn't brilliant but by this time next year I hope to have shot WHOLE WIRED WORLD. That is really all I anticipate, as my other main project is currently screwed until I figure out a way to access Public Liability Insurance!!

These movies are to be shot no DV, any quality - I'm not fussed. It's the quality of my production skills, directing and DoPing that I'm focussing on mostly. I'd love to buy an XL2 or a 2nd hand XL1s but that is a long way off, I have a good job re time off but its not so good re pay.

Anything else completed by this time next year I'll consider a bonus, that includes other people's projects that I'll have helped on and can "add" to my showreel (i.e. Treasure of the Templars).

I may also set up a formal business by that point, I just need to research how well an independent stock footage company would run!

Ah, sweet retrospect.

Chi Xi Stigma evolved into a dark comedy-drama (don't ask) and it is in pre-production. Sexton Lovecraft.

Pressed DVDs were not economically viable. Instead you can order the DVD here or get it for iPod/PC/etc here. You can give it marks out of ten on IMDb here.

I will be getting rid of my last Microsoft machine within the next few days! Dreams can come true!

quite unexpected, but I'm very pleased with how it turned out (basically I provided some characters and ideas and the animator locked himself in a room for several years).
