The place, "revolution", was a dive. It was out doors & over crowded, which is a fine combo in the FL heat.
The bar was packed- we had to wait 30 min to get a drink. When Social Distortion came out at least 8 people in my immediate area were sparking up J's and passing them around like it was a Grateful Dead show. What was shaping up to be a shitty night turned out to be something different and unexpected that made the long drive and the pot smoke in my face worth it.
Not even halfway through the set it started raining. Everyone on the floor was getting soaked. The sound system and the stage lights were popping and sparking. I was really impressed they played until everything went out.
When it was clear the PA was shot, they brought out acoustic guitars and borrowed the stand up from Tiger Army and tried to finish the set. Their guitar tech and other roadies shined flashlights on the band. It was fully acoustic- no amplification at all. You had to be close to the stage to hear, so some people were getting bent- but it was totally different and very noble for them to try their best to salvage the show.
electric set:
Ring Of Fire
Reach For The Sky
Under My Thumb
Highway 101
Mommy's Little Monster
The Creeps
Cold Feelings
intro to When She Begins
Acoustic set
When She Begins
Story Of My Life
Prison Bound
Making Believe
Sick Boy
Ball and Chain
Everyone was trying to sing along- I thought it was really cool, but after they left the stage people began chanting "bull-shit".
It's not the band's fault the outdoors venue that advertised "rain or shine" wasn't fitted properly. I can't even tell you how awesome it was. They really made an incredible effort to create a one of a kind show that these kids will never see again. Some people did appreciate it, and the kids who didn't may come to appreciate it later.
