here's my setup ...
92 first gen GSR
95 B18c(stock everything) w/95 ECU
Skunk gears at 0 ( anyone have suggestions?)
RSR exhaust .. punched out stock cat
RC 310 cc's
NGK BKR7e-11's, Accel ignition/coil
custom turbo kit - turbonetics t3/t4e, intercooler, turbonetics "garbage"gate, cartech adjustable FPR, Bosch fuel pump
9 psi of boost
heres the problem .. say i'm about to stomp on it .. first gear @ 2000 rpm or so and then BAM i get on it ... it'll lag as usual(expected) and then pull to about 3500-4000 where it hits full boost .. and then from 3500-4000 it'll hit this flat laggy part .. it feels like something is holding it back ( besides the wastegate ) .. it feels like its the igntion system missing or wayyy to rich .. but then when i hit 5500 BAM..i'm pulling like f%$k again all the way to redline ... the flat spot is even worse when i start from second gear@ the same rpm ... it'll lag badddd... anyone experience these problems? is it just too rich? My halmeter a/f gauge reads in the middle/far right of the green area at all times under boost so i dont think its THAT rich ...
what do you guys think???

Maybr you need larger injectors. I am not to familiar with turbo setups but I am constantly seeing guys that are running turbos with huge injectors, like 410's. I don't really know why that is but it could be your prob.
-
My guess is that is has something to do with your CarTech adjustable FPR. Need to play with it some more. That, or something to do with your check valve/MAP bypass setup.

Oh. Forgot to mention... After you get the other issues sorted out. Try leaving the intake cam alone and retard the exhaust cam 2-4 degrees.
-
i doubt its the injectors as 310's should be more than enough even for up to 14psi .. that and the a/f meter is reading rich still ...
but besides that .. i might just switch my FPR to a non adjustable one .. that cartech is pretty hard to tune .. well all it has a main adjustment that makes the most difference and a smaller fine tuning adjustment screw that hardly does anything anyways... maybe i'll just swap it in for a vortech and see what happens?
about the map/bypass setup .. whats the proper way to run it anyways? im pretty sure I have it done right but I want to hear the real way .. thanks for any info!!

Like Mark said, try leaving the intake side alone and retard the exh. 3 or so degrees.
You might want to swap the FPR for the vortech one. I have it on my integra and have one for my CRX and it works really well. The injectors seem about right for your boost.
I reccommend getting rid of your exh. also. You can probably get more out of an exh. with bigger piping than the RS*R.
You might want to get a new wastegate, I used to have the delta and hated it. I am now going with an HKS and love it. I have it on both turbo systems. There is no boost spike at all. It stays very steady.

haha.. i definitely want to get rid of the "garbage"gate ... its blown alot of my friend's motors .... I want to go HKS too but the cost is sorta high and I have better things to spend money on right now ...
as for the gears..I'll give the retarded exhaust a try ...
my RSR actually has 2.5 inch piping..which isnt all that bad..i dont want it to be too noisy and am more than willing to give up some power for it.. besides...anything bigger that will hang lower and the streets of San Francisco here will destroy it ....
and anyways... even with the gears at 0 it SHOUldnt be having any problems .. what can it be??
-
i just took off my 3" custom exhaust with apex N1 muffler and swapped back my RSR.
i don't recommend a bigger (louder) exhaust unless you plan on boosting over 20 psi and living without your sense of hearing. it's especially deafeningly annoying on the freeway. i doubt it makes that much power at that many psi of boost either.
by the way i have a custom kit with an HKS gate, garrett T3/T4, blitz bov, vortech FPR, etc...and i also feel a little drop in power at 3.5-4.5k rpm. it could be the dual stage intake switchover. you might want to try deactivating it to see if you get smoother power delivery in the rpm range.

I think that little adjustment on the CarTech FMU is the rate-of-gain adjustment. But I am not too familiar with those unit. I think you want the Vortech 10:1 FMU if you go that route. Maybe a little less like 8:1 since you have 310's tho. Check with others for help there.
I'm glad turboB18C mentioned be went from a 3" exhaust back down to a normal cat-back. I was thinking of switching my GReddy with a 3" N1 setup. Whew. http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/smile.gif In my case the GReddy cat-back with the turbo on is eerily quiet on the highway. I'm talking like stock quiet. Even tho I am missing one major exhaust component.... http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/wink.gif
Yo Tyler! We have like the exact same, but opposite setups! LOL!. I have a Turbo VTEC in my Integra. And I have a 89 CRX awaiting a built ZC motor for use with turbo and NOS. Cool. http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/smile.gif

Mark, it sounds like we're thinking the same thing. I was thinking of adding a 60 shot of nitros with the turbo. What kind of turbo do you have for the crx? I have the same as the integra(i.e. HKS wastegate, turbonetics t3/t4, HKS SSBOV, Vortech FPR, Bosch inline, XS engineering intercooler, etc.).

Tyler: I just have a GReddy Civic turbo kit that I am going to throw on my built ZC. Plan to run 12-15psi on the street with stock ECU and plumb in an 80-100-shot direct port for when I'm feelin' spicey. http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
