A GREAT cover of Too Many Fish In The Sea, kicks Billy Lee's out the fucking DOOR!!!!

Listening to their cover of A Change Is Gonna Come brings to mind my time at my GGM's black Catholic church, what with the Hammond and the monkish chants. I was born by the river, indeed!!

Wishbone Ash - Bona Fide. Was out at the bars on Saturday and I struck up a conversation with the guitarist of the band that was setting up. We talked about vintage guitars and such, and he was in love with the set-up I use, and then we talked about Wishbone Ash a bit, and he ran out to his car and gave me the CD I am now listening to. Was never a huge fan, but it is a cool disc with some great playing.

Mechanical Animals - Marilyn Manson

I've always loved that album. Very glam. [img]wink.gif[/img]

i kind of lost my taste for manson after antichrist superstar. i have a fuckton of respect for the man himself (other than the dirt i think long hard road out of hell is the best book in its genre, or close), but he basically came across with the message that acs would be his last album because he'd said what he had to say, then overnight he changed his image *and* his mind, and that bugs me. don't get me wrong, i don't have any issue with bands who supposedly "sell out" -- if i were famous i'd sell out in a heartbeat, but not if i'd made a point of saying i wasn't going to.

that said i couldn't really keep going after acs although i've read the lyrics for mechanical animals and as usual with manson, they're great. i'll just never really get into anything past acs, although i do like "para-noir" and his cover songs.

and Kat, you should give Holy Wood a listen. To me it is a more mature ACS, which is still my favorite album. As for Manson selling out, he has always been a fake, not unlike the side show with the three headed chicken at the carnival. i have no problem with selling out, every band claims at one point that they won't then turn around and do it, just some do it better. the problem i have with Manson and where i lost respect for him was when Mechanical Animals came out and he started all his drug talk, i take this and i take that bullshit. first, taking drugs and bragging about it does not make you look cool, it just makes you look sad, makes you look like a waste, second, he never did the drugs he claimed so not only does it make him look sad and a waste, it makes him a loser as well.

i'm not sure i follow. manson's a known drug user and has been for over a decade, he's done just about everything under the sun. and while i agree that bragging about drug use isn't cool, i do support responsible recreational use, and i support him on that note, if not on all others.

when Mechanical Animals was released my friends band was in the studio in NYC recording their album and Ginger Fish was there. We hung out afterwards that night hitting the town and Ginger himself said that the whole drug user, glammer junkie image/persona is fake. it was all about the hollywood glitter glam bowie androgynous backdrop Manson wanted to paint for the album. when it comes down to it, Manson is the ultimate salesman. he can make you believe whatever he wants you too and it worked until he bacame too popular for himself. when being Marilyn Manson was a semi-part time job (meaning when he was on tour or doing press) it was easy to keep up the charade but once the media wanted to know everything about him, he had to be Marilyn Manson 24x7x365 and it didn't work that way. the anti-christ is not supposed to have a pet dog and a house in hollywood hills, the anti-christ is not supposed to shop at walgreen's on a saturday afternoon, the anti-christ is not supposed to eat at the In-N-Out and so on. Just like Alice Cooper playing golf in Arizona. Once you lose the mystic the magic is gone.

don't get me wrong. i'm sure a great deal of every move marilyn manson and company makes is comlpetely staged, that's how the entertainment industry works. none of it's real. manson's portrayed to be this horrifically anti-god, anti-children, anti-family, anti-all that is good, and that's bullshit. watch one interview with the guy and you know that's bullshit.

but i won't be persuaded into believing that his own autobiography is filled with pages of nothing but lies, which it would have to be if manson didn't use drugs, because there are drugs on most every page of that book. i don't think marilyn manson is anywhere near being a drug addict; drug addicts don't fire band members for *their* drug habits and manson's frankly had so many negative drug experiences that i don't think he could ever truly wind up in junkie-land. but when you get to stories about smoking ground up bones with groupies, tripping and flipping out because your best friend thinks he's in a rowboat, etc., you just don't/can't make that shit up. manson may not be a big drug user, but he's certainly used a good amount of drugs.

i understand your point but you also have to take into consideration that manson's childhood friends, his family, ex-bandmates, and even manson himself, came out after the book was released and in some way stated that the book was not totally based on the truth. you have writers from south florida papers stating that some things that were claimed in the book never happened. you have Scott (Daisy Berkowitz) stating that he doesn't remember certain incidents in the book ever taking place. You have his family debunking the facts around his grandfather and then you have manson who in an interview stated something to the effect of, sure i took creative liberties with my book but isn't that what america wants? amarica doesn't want the truth, america wants to be entertained and thats what i did.

don't get me wrong, manson is tops in my book. love everything he does, some take a little longer for me to appreciate but i eventually come around. i just look at him in a different light now then when i was younger. that's all. and yes, 'long hard road out of hell' is an excellent read.
