So we've seen 3 out of 5 so far...

I consider five new shows this year 'weird, sci-fi, supernatural, pseudo science, x-files' sort of stuff - Supernatural, Threshold, Surface, Nightstalker and Invasion. The first three have aired - thoughts?

So far I think Threshold is the strongest by far, with the best acting and certainly best tension. I'm not sure it can sustain it though.

Surface was had the most 'movie of the week' feel to it, but the premise is still interesting, and I'm digging the sea monster, or what we've seen so far anyway.

Supernatural was the nice surprise to me. I figured it would be really weak, but the acting and character dynamics turned out much better, and comes off as a 'hip' X-Files. The monster of the week will have to get more interesting than the first episode though, but at least the overall story arc has an interesting flavor.

They had large chunks of both Invasion and Nightstalker at SDCC, and Invasion didn't really do much for me. Of course, that's in large part due to the fact that most of what they showed was around the storm, and nothing to do with the actual invasion. And Nightstalker was better than I expected, with some opportunity for some really graphic, creepy monster sequences, but I'm not sure the acting is going to support it.

So what have you been watching?

I have seen only "Surface" , so far is interesting....

I caught the first 2-hour part of Threshold and the wife and I thought it was outstanding - now as you pointed, if it can keep the pace through the show.

I have passed on the others due to us having so many other shows we watch, and conflicts have arisen with times. If any of the new ones crossed the established shows - we skipped.

If we find out is really WAS something to watch - we'll just pick it up next season on DVD [img]wink.gif[/img]

You know what, there's actually 6 that fit the category - I forgot Ghost Whisperer. Unless JLH spends the entire hour nekkid, I'll be skipping it.

It's that glowing box that we feel compelled to arrange our furniture around.... but I agree with you. I'd rather put a pair of stereo speakers on either side of my fireplace and point the furniture there. [img]wink.gif[/img]

I only saw 'Invasion' at SDCC, but dear god it was ponderous. And I wanted to punch Shaun Cassidy right in the mouth.

haven't been watching anything other than old monster movies on DVD for the most part... oh, and Battlestar Galactic...

Has Nightstalker aired yet? That i might be interested in...

DAMN! I've only been able to catch Supernatural. Was really interested in all of them. Which ones (besides Supernatural & Night Stalker) are new series?

Uh, all six I mentioned. Threshold is a very good (so far) alien invasion (although they aren't traditional aliens, but appear to be from another dimension) show, Invasion appears to be aliens although they made a crack at SDCC that they never said that, Surface might be alien, might not be, comes from the water, looks like a whole lot of VERY big sea monsters, Ghost Whisperer is that Sixth Sense wannabee, and of course Nightstalker and Supernatural are monster of the week shows.

And Nightstalker starts next week I believe.

Lost starts again tomorrow which will make all the rest of these shows irrelevant.

Having only seen the promos for Surface, I cant see how that could be anything more than a mini-series... [img]graemlins/sure.gif[/img]

I don't know about Lost. They best start getting someplace with the overall story, or the viewers are going to start dropping like flies.
