Anybody have a clue on the D2 playoff outlook now that PV has beat GC? And also assuming Haysi has beat Hurley?
Really is still down to the same 5 teams, with Honaker in (BDD Champs) and probably the number one seed. GC, Clintwood, PV, and Haysi fighting for the other 3 spots, and if all teams win out, the Tigers will probably be left out because of the lack of schedule strength. Nothing is for certain yet with PV and GC playing Appy, and GC has JIB too. It will really be interesting, but this was very big for PV and may have been a must win for them.
To me just by looking at the remaining schedules it seems Clintwood would be left out...I mean I'm just glancing not averaging any points; Still assuming Haysi beats Hurley, thats a Hurley team with 7 wins, that will be a big power point game; Haysi still has D4 Letcher County, D1 Ervinton(which will amount to practically no points), and D3 Grundy, assuming Haysi beats Ervinton and Grundy thats still a decent amount of power points. But still I'm just glancing I could be dead wrong.
Not many points from Grundy either! You may be right, just according to how things turn out. GC could lose both remaining games and be in dire straits.
Yeah, I'm really confused now about whats goin to shape out
If Clintwood wins out and Appy beats Powell Valley----------who knows.
It's a mess man a real mess.
- Honaker will be in the playoffs by winning the BDD.
- Powell Valley will be guaranteed a playoff spot if they defeat Coeburn next week.
- Haysi will more than likely earn a playoff spot. They defeated Hurley tonight and are now 6-1. With Ervinton, Letcher Central and Grundy still left on the schedule, they can definitely gain a playoff spot by winning two of the last three...possibly even get into the postseason by winning just one. With Ervinton almost being a sure win for the Red Tigers & both Letcher Central & Grundy being pretty weak, the odds are that they'll get in.
- Gate City needs to win at least one of their last two, unless Clintwood loses to either Burton or Clintwood. In that case, GC will be in the playoffs regardless of what they do.
- Clintwood needs to win out and have Gate City lose out. There's really no other way to say it.
Lee beat Abingdon tonight so thats two points for Haysi from Lee and no points for Honaker from Abingdon. It looks as if adding the Falcons to the schedule might have been a mistake for Honaker! Hopefull Abingdon can win their season closer against Marion and finish with a sparkling 3-7 record. I honestly expected Abingdon to finish 5-5 this year. Does anyone know Letcher Central's record thus far? If Haysi can win out, they maybe can sneak in at #1 seed if they can get more rider points than Honaker. I haven't really paid much attention to points and team records this year, but just by glancing at some of the info on the G-Man's site, some crazy things can still happen.
Letcher Central is weak? Surprising if it's true, Whitesburg has always had strong football teams haven't they?
If PV loses to Appy and with Clintwood beating PV--let's say Clintwood wins out and this happens. This leaves Clintwood and PV with 3 losses each. How will it pan out?
Letcher Central was 3-5 heading into tonights matchup against Evarts.
The Lee High win over Abingdon gave Haysi, Powell Valley, Gate City and Clintwood two unexpected rider points and more or less took 2 away from Honaker. If Honaker wins out, they'll be the #1 seed though regardless. Their season-ending matchup against Tazewell will be tough though. If they lose to Tazewell & Haysi wins out, Haysi will more than likely be the #1 seed, but with their SOS even that is a question mark at this time.
You've got that backwards. Letcher Central was 5-3, not 3-5.
My bad you are right, I was looking at Knox Central.
Who do we need to pay off? Someone please spill the beans!!!!

If Powell Valley loses to Appalachia, that will give them 4 losses (Seymour, Clintwood, Burton and Appy). In that case, GC would have to win at least one of the two remaining to make the playoffs. Clintwood wins out and puts them in the playoffs (if PV loses to Appy). If Clintwood, PV & GC all go 7-3 it would come down to ratings to which two out of the three make the playoffs. From just looking at it briefly (numbers), this would probably put PV & GC in the playoffs.
What I was afraid of. If we had gotten off our tails and beat Haysi, there wouldn't be as big of worry. Oh well, just have to hope for the best.
Well, if all three (PV, GC & Clintwood) finish at 7-3 it looks as if Clintwood would be the odd man out, but you never know. The unexpected Lee High win is a good example. Next week should clear it up quite a bit before heading into the last week of the regular season.
I wish Honaker would get John Battle off the schedule. The Trojans dropped another one 58-66 in a defensive showcase in Saltville tonight. Shoot, we drop Castlewood, who is a county rival and who can usually rack up a few wins a season but we still have Battle on the schedule. I just don't get it! I knew dropping C-wood was a mistake when they blasted JB out of the water in that benefit game.
Clintwood needs to win, which is going to be difficult and probably needs some help. I'm gonna be a Bulldog fan in 2 weeks, but thats all assuming (big assumption) that Clintwood can beat Norton, which isn't going to be easy at all.
has clintwood already rung up the pound game in the win column????
Pound's got a good team. I honestly don't think their record (4-4) is a true indication of how good of a team they happen to be. They've lost to four playoff-vying teams (Appy, GC, PV & Burton). They're no pushover. A lot will ride on what their collective mindset happens to be the remainder of the season as to how they finish up.
No but the Pound game comes after the Norton game, so no sense looking ahead, just know that the Appy/PV game has to go that way no matter what.
I have.
Me also. That mystique comes into play, The same Gate City holds over Clintwood. I'll get bashed for being over confident, but the Wave needs some confidence in a big way. Just win BABY!
More than likely Haysi will win out. I think GC will lose to JIB and beat Appy. I think PV will lose to
Appy. Honaker will lose to Tazewell. Clintwood will lose to JIB and Pound. That is my opinion and if it works out like that I think Cwood will be watching from the bleachers but who knows with this crazy season. I thought for sure Haysi would beat Honaker and Cwood would beat GC so what do I know?
Be quiet Herb!
Sorry Burrhead I thought that Pound would give some teams fits and they have done a pretty good job compared to teams they have had lately. But I think that they will beat Cwood and JIB will give them fits with that speed.
Id say PV beating GC hurt us BIG TIME as far as the playoffs go. It will be a long shot, but if we beat Burton we are right back in it I would have to assume. Although there are only 2 weeks left, still a ton of scenerios.
Barring injury Burton WILL run the table rest of the way. So that leaves who out?
Well as of now I would say Gate City, Powell Valley, Haysi and Honaker are in, but where each team will be seeded is the real big question here! Looks like Clintwood will be out.
If that is the case, I'm pulling for Appy in Division 1, Honaker in Division 2.
I'm a PV fan but I don't think Burton is getting enough respect this season. That's a dang good football team.
Clintwood is the only team that GC has defeated with a winning record. GC posters don't go ape about that statement because that is a fact. VA High is 3-5, Lee is 2-6, Kelly is 0-8 and Coeburn is 2-6. Pound is 4-4.
They beat our tails off, but they are not State material by far. I'm afraid Region D Division 2 is in big trouble.
I would like to see Haysi or Honaker win the Region and even Clintwood if they make just to get some newer blood in the mix. But in reality I don't think that the seeds will matter a whole lot every team seems to be fairly evenly matched.
Say Appalachia and Burton both beat the blue devils. WOuld that put GC out and put clintwood in?
I think C-Wood would have to beat Burton, and Burton and Appy would have to beat GC, and PV beats Appy, C-Wood is in, GC is out.
I think.
Damn, Thatd be nice, seeing GC at home come playoff time.
Im now a huge greenwave fan!!
No offense to Gate City people but oh the possibilities...
That is a very good possibility that it could work out like that. I wouldn't mind seeing GC at home.
I guess the last time they stayed home was in 1998. I am not sure however it was around that year.
