WHAT is going on with the board?
Dear Board
So what is happening with the board? For the past few days, my browsers kept timing out whenever I tried to access the board. I managed to access it today because I used Firefox, but was unable to post anything. I'm now doing this on my Apple computer, but even that took several minutes to get onto the site and then almost a minute to enable me to gain the access needed to write this thread. Is this just a problem with me? Or are others having this difficulty? If the latter, then this is getting out of control. XP, could you let us know what is happening? If the HB service continues to deteriorate in this way, I think that we seriously have to consider some kind of alternative arrangement or hosting service.
Thanks for your attention to this.

Re: WHAT is going on with the board?
Took more than a dozen tries to even get this reply box to show up. The reality is that the content here has been in free fall for years and the last year of the board itself has been a train wreck. The Steven guy who runs it does little more than try and pocket $150 a month while farming out the elementary level coding to the cheapest option possible. There's no excuse for the failed content recovery, there's no excuse for using a physical server in 2018 for something like this, and there's no excuse for the absolute refusal of the folks running hostboard to respond to anyone about the problems with their entire system.
At some point XP needs to either shut it all down or admit that it's been a horrible decision to stick with this amateur hour outfit and move to another host. I'd gladly pay a few dollars a month for something that works with a responsive team in place that actually tries to fix things.
I'm guessing it will take several tries to get this to actually post, if it does at all. I'm even more sure that sticking with shitboard will continue on with the old posts lost and nothing done to recover them.

Re: WHAT is going on with the board?
It isn't just you, JB. I have not been able to sign on for two full days now, with a MacBook.
An while I have no knowledge of how a board or a web hosting site like this works, I will say that I have not encountered such difficulty on any other site. It's frustrating and enough to make me consider posting elsewhere...despite the fact that I do love this small community of posters, readers and writers.
I hope that XP, Steven et al can do something else other than claim they are "working on it." Also, I have contributed money (not a lot) and would be willing to send more except that I don't see any change for the better.
It's a shame...I would hate to loose this.
Sincerely,
A. Penman

Re: WHAT is going on with the board?
For the past 2 days, I got a "This site is offline" but uses the Always On Cloud thing to display an archived version, does that clear anything up?

Not really; it depends on how current the archived copy is. I was getting the same message, but I did not try to get the archived version.
I've asked Anubis if he is interested in assembling an email list, so that those of us who wish to continue writing and exchanging stories will have a way to contact each other, if the board goes down or becomes unusable. He has indicated he is interested in starting this.

Re: WHAT is going on with the board?
Dear JB,
I'll address the bull in the china shop, regarding our options. If in nothing else, XP and/or Steve should comment on whether or not these lags are attributable, as suspected to past shortcomings, a development after the death of net neutrality, or a mixture of both. Now that AT and T (whose predecessor Mama Bell was broken up under Reagan of all people to prevent sector monopoly) grew so large it owns HBO, things aren't looking too good for small business.
In any case, regardless how the community decides, beyond hosting fees, it should matter how customer service works (and I worked in that, so I know how understaffed that can be, plus the IT personnel is rarely trained to be customer oriented) and how the speed is.
P.S.: It's strictly me, but when I'm unsure if my PC acts up, my browser does or it's on the other end, I always check the website's availability. That has the added bonus of seeing what other sites people searched for so some rare gems can be found without relying on SEO.

Re: WHAT is going on with the board?
Ok, I kid you not, it has taken me the past THREE HOURS to get to the point that I can actually post this message. Obviously, that is impossible. Until this board is fixed, I am going to stop coming here. Someone can do me a favor and send me a message at [email protected] when the board is usable once more.
Someone earlier suggested that this problem has something to do with net neutrality becoming unenforced in the US. I don't think that is the case for a number of reasons, the most obvious being that this is the only site I frequent where this is a problem.
XP, you just simply have to get this fixed. As I said, I am going to stop coming here until the board is fixed. I cannot be the only person having this problem. I note that whenever I logon, a large number of people seem to be logged on at the same time - just now, there were two members and 17 visitors - but I know that I would have been indicated as logged on for hours while I was trying to get any kind of usable access to the board.
This board is going to die very quickly and unceremoniously if this problem is not fixed immediately. Expecting people to waste hours just to get in is, obviously, completely unreasonable and unsustainable. Thankfully, I had other things I could do while the connection circle spun. But I can't begin to describe the level of frustration that this situation has created.
To the best of my knowledge, there has been no communication from anyone re: what the board's problems are. I don't think that XP has posted any explanation or any indication that he is contact with admin; admin has not said anything. Again, none of this is sustainable.
So, I've left people with my email address. Hopefully, Anubis is putting together that mailing list and it will be possible to maintain contact with people who contact him and give him their information.
It will be incredibly sad to see this board die, but this level of disservice cannot possibly work to sustain a community. For myself, I know of nowhere else to go to publish my stories. If anyone has any alternative venues, please let us/me know.
Thanks,
JB57
I edited back my previous post; the many repetitions of my post were the result of me trying to post and then getting no indication that my message had actually posted. Eventually, I gave up. At any rate, I'm hopeful that things on the board are getting a bit better, though it has taken me about 30 minutes to get to the point that I could put up this message. Hopefully, it will post. Again, this is unacceptable. I'd be happy, at this point, just to get an acknowledgement that the HB admin knows there is a problem and is doing something to fix it.
-
Re: WHAT is going on with the board?
OK, so I managed to access this site and now post this message (hopefully) and, so far, the whole process has taken "only" five minutes - so, with any luck, that is an indication that the board may be fixing its problems.
I received a message from XP, who indicated that he has not been able to login for the past week and has been unable to contact the people in charge of HB. He is very upset over what is happening but has not been able to clear matters up. I promised him I would convey his frustrations and concerns to the board, if I was able to logon.
Let's keep our fingers crossed that this situation is now in the process of being corrected. However, I think we can all agree that HB is becoming unreliable and difficult to use. This recent situation, combined with the inability to access past stories cleanly, means we should probably be considering other options.

Re: WHAT is going on with the board?
For the past four days I haven't even been able to open Hostboard.com; constantly getting a Clourdflare error... It could be they couldn't secure enough funding for the monthly upkeep, and so hosting is running at diminished capacity.
-
Re: WHAT is going on with the board?
Things seem to be getting considerably better. To reply to Indris' point, I don't know what is going on, but I hope that the people who run HB will make some kind of announcement explaining the situation. If this is about a funding shortfall, then let us know. If it's a technical problem, then let us know. The lack of communication is a problem. Admittedly, if this problem is being resolved now, HB has not had a chance to inform us yet, but I hope we get something in the near future.

Re: WHAT is going on with the board?
Hi, everyone. First off, I'd like to acknowledge and apologize for all the issues that have been happening with this forum, not just over the past week, but for the past year. It's been bad and I absolutely understand the frustration you're all going through. As JB has noted in an earlier post (THANKS!), I was unable to get onto the forum for about a week. I kept getting a message that the site is down. I contacted DHH and he had the exact same problem. In fact, I received an e-mail from him from just a few hours ago saying he still can't get on. I honestly have no idea why we're having these connection problems. For those of you who don't know, I don't own Hostboard. I just own this forum that is hosted on Hostboard. Hostboard itself is owned by Steven. A year ago, he hired a programmer to start improving the forum because after over a decade, he felt modernizing would be nice. However, what ended up happening was that each time a new feature was implemented, some other features would fail. This then led to the Titfighting and Sexfighting Forum, our forum, getting hit really hard when one of the upgrades caused thousands of our posts to disappear from public access. According to Steven, those posts are STILL on his server and visible to him and the programmer. However, somehow, those posts can't be made publicly visible again. For a year, I've been asking over and over again for updates. I would get them once in a while and they'd always be the same - the programmer hasn't figured it out, but is working on it. Eventually, however, even those updates stopped.
As JB also noted above, now is a good time to consider other hosting options for our forum since Hostboard is clearly having issues that may not be resolved soon, or maybe even ever. I know some of you have expressed that you felt maybe I should have considered leaving sooner. Trust me when I say I've been considering it for a long time. My personal reasoning for not having left yet is because Hostboard has our missing posts on their server. Right now, as a forum owner on Hostboard, I can continue to complain and push for the return of our posts to public visibility. However, I have always been worried and continue to be worried that should we move elsewhere, I will lose weight behind my complaints and we may never get our posts back. Now, I absolutely acknowledge that even if we stay, there is every possibility that we won't get them back. But, please understand that after over a decade on Hostboard, I felt we had some strength behind my repeated requests for post recovery.
Regardless, as of now, those posts are missing. However, I have a small bit of good news. Please find in this link 2 files. One is the backup of this forum I made moments ago. (It took me about 20 minutes to get it done, so right now, I'm extremely thankful it actually worked!!!) The second file is from 2016, which was the last time I backed up this forum before the forum problems started.
WeTransfer
(Files available until July 4)
If you're wondering why I stopped making backups for a while, something happened in my personal life back in 2016 that I really don't want to put into the public realm. But, basically, I stopped coming on here on a regular basis, letting DHH take over moderating duties up until my return. Unfortunately, I didn't realize he couldn't make backups, and by the time I came back, we had already lost the posts. To me, this is not just a bad excuse, this is NO excuse. I really should have given my account access to DHH altogether. But, I didn't think of it then and hindsight is 20/20. All I can offer is my sincere apologies and the files in the link above. The 2016 backup has a lot of stuff that I'm sure you'll all be happy to see again.
So, what are our options moving forward? I've considered many. In terms of free forum hosting services, I've discovered that they either don't allow adult content or are so unreliable and/or sketchy that I really don't want to move us there. In terms of paid options, I've looked into a few, like vBulletin. The cost wouldn't be cheap (in my opinion). Now, I know some of you may be willing to pay or help out, I honestly don't want to make this a paid membership kind of deal and I don't think asking for "donations" is a long term solution. Also, and this is painful to admit - I don't know much about programming. One of the options I considered is getting a cheap plan on Wix and then using forum software to program a forum that I then load on there. Problem is that this will probably take me a LONG time to figure out considering my lack of technical ability, and it's a length of time I don't think we have.
JB did suggest something outside the box, though, and it's intrigued me quite a bit. He suggested that maybe we can move onto DeviantArt, which is a site where artists put their works up, including stories. I have an account there already, though I don't go on much and haven't been there in a while. But, as I understand it, people can make "Communities" on there and then members of the communities can add their art to it. When it comes to adult content, I'm not 100% sure what the limits are, but I've seen some female combat pics and their breasts were visible. So, my guess is maybe no penises and no vaginas? The limits for stories, though, is something I'll have to look into. Regardless, this free option look appealing since DeviantArt is HUGE and has been around for a very long time. My only concern is that we may lose the "conversation" aspect of our forum. I originally created this forum more as a meeting place for people with our interests, not as a story site. Sure, I expected stories to be posted, but those were more like the cherry on top of the ice cream that was our meeting place for discussion. I feel that should we move to DeviantArt and become a "Community" instead of a "Forum", we'll be transforming into being discussion-centric to being story-centric. My question to you all, then, is - Are you okay with that?
And, this is as much as I can offer for now. I'll try to come on again later. For now, once again, I'm very sorry for the mess. I'll continue to do my best to try and get both an answer from Hostboard as to what's going on and to get our missing posts back. I will also continue to look at our options. Please, if you have any suggestions for new host sites, let me know. Any help would be much appreciated.
Thank you all for your understanding and continued support.

Re: WHAT is going on with the board?
Hey XP, JB et al
Thanks for raising these problems and potential solutions, I share the same concerns as everyone else.
If I can restrict my comments to DeviantArt as a potential solution, I'm afraid I can't see how that could work for the type of material we typically post on Hostboard as they have fairly stringent rules on content. Granted these are not always enforced rigorously, but it your page is reported by any other user who is offended by an item you will a) receive a polite notice to take the work down and b) , worse case scenario, your page could be blocked altogether as a repeat offender.
I've been active on DA for 7 years and for this reason alone I won't post ANY of my more explicit sexfighting stories there : I simply can't afford to run the risk of getting blocked. Apart from that, there's no reason not to set your own page up there if you haven't one so already. Here's mine as an example.
Excalib | DeviantArt
In addition to hosting your own page DA does provide the facility to create user groups to share art and stories. However, I suspect that if one was set up under the heading Titfighting and Sexfighting Group I suspect it might receive some moderator attention before too long. If anyone thinks I'm wide of the mark on this please say so, its just based on my own experience of DA. And I had at least one story taken down which involved explicit sex (ironically they seem less phased by fatality!).
All the best,
Rags

Re: WHAT is going on with the board?
I can be contacted on [email protected] or [email protected] in case you guys do a mailing list to exchange stories. Do add me to it. I feel bad that the board has been acting strange. I have been working simultaneously on 3 long stories, all of them quite far away from completion. Hope everything works out with regard to the board.
-
Re: WHAT is going on with the board?
I can't speak to XP's or Ragnar0k's concerns for certain - I do know there are several accounts on DA that have explicit photographs of two women together (just search for "lesbian" with Photographs > People and Portraits as the content type). Westcat has published a lot of his catball/catfight photos and renders on there, and even photographers for SuicideGirls.com has posted a handful of portraits and implied-lesbian images to promote their site. I also know a couple of catfighting sites use DA as a hub, though I can't remember who they are. As to whether they would allow a sexfighting community in-name, I've no idea... you might have to name it exceedingly carefully in case it violates their Terms of Service.

Re: WHAT is going on with the board?
I'm not a frequent contributor, but I do like this site a lot. I have written a very long story that I want to post. Cross your fingers everyone. Hopefully some sort of solution will happen.

@cyberj can you email me the story? :)

Re: WHAT is going on with the board?
Hey everyone...
In addition to what has been said earlier, I would just like to add that I have seen some very sketchy stuff on DA. e.g pregnant women fighting, milk being pumped out of women's breasts etc..
Raging Moms and Daughters by CrazyVictor on DeviantArt
Also please have my e-mail address if a list is being compiled for future migration [email protected]
Finally, i tried accessing the backup made by XP and unfortunately it seems that the same has been deleted.
Hoping for a speedy resolution to all of this mess.

Re: WHAT is going on with the board?
Howdy, all
I, too, really hope that XP, Steve and the team can get these issues fixed. Hostboard has served us for many years, and it would be sad to have to let it go. But if these connection issues persist, and if the 'disappearance' of older stories cannot be fixed, there seems to be little choice.
I have finally finished a new episode of BFS Tribute, but can't really publish it here, not with the site in the condition it's currently in...
Hopefully a solution can be found soon,
Augur

Re: WHAT is going on with the board?
So i wanted to say that devianArt is not a solution, i used to follow an artist that wrote some kind of sexfight stories, it was ok when he had 2 or 3 but when he reached some views he got shut down without preavis.
As for the forum, the developper should be able to generate a copy of this board since it opened without any problem. You should ask him.
It took me 3min to login, that's awful. You can find free wa6s to create a forum, and way cheaper to keep online that the price i saw on the home page.

Re: WHAT is going on with the board?
working a little better now. but threads still take time to load.
-
Re: WHAT is going on with the board?
It's taken me two days to get to this point. So, while I hope that the board is improving, I'm not holding my breath, just keeping my fingers crossed!
Just an idea: is it possible this is being caused by this "Cloudflare" that keeps coming up whenever efforts to access HB time out? Maybe CF has always been part of the board, but I wonder if it is a new security measure that is causing problems with access speed.
I hope that people are still sending their email addresses to Anubis, so that we have a workable email list for the future.
Let's hope the board improves over the next week, but we should also keep thinking of contingency plans. I have an idea that I want to run by XP, but I think it could work.

Re: WHAT is going on with the board?
Since the WeTransfer backup is no longer there, was just wondering is there a way to reinstate the backup?

Re: WHAT is going on with the board?
Some somewhat good news from my end: over the past day or so, I've managed to gain a bit of reliable access to the board. It takes forever for each function to lead (at least 30-40 seconds each) but all of them are loading and not timing out. It's far too early to say that this access will be consistent and it is still unacceptably slow, but at least it is working (in a fashion).
Other alternatives are still necessary, however. At this point, given its many other problems, the board is barely functional.

Re: WHAT is going on with the board?
May I make a suggestion? Google Groups. It is no-frills forum-based. Everyone can easily get a gmail account, and best of all, as stated per their content policy, they absolutely DO allow adult contents.
"Adult Content: We do allow adult content on Google Groups, including images or videos that contain nudity or sexual activity. But, you must mark your group as 'adult' in your settings. There are some exceptions to our adult content policy:
Do not use Groups as a way to make money on adult content. For example, don?t link to commercial porn websites in order to make money in your posts.
We do not allow non-consensual or illegal sexual content, including image, video or textual content that depicts or encourages rape, incest, bestiality, or necrophilia."

I have no problem with Google Groups if they are OK with adult content. However let me warn for two things :
1// i do not know their security level or how they manage everything posted there. I am out of US, my English are not that well for this kind of check. So you my friends who live there, try to find out, it may be crucial.
2// Take a closer look at the legendary story of Angel's "Private Eye" . It might be cut there as they have mother/daughter and two sisters in making love scenes or sexfights. Not in just one chapter. I mean in 6 more or less, if i remember well. Just to let you know. If lesbian incest is not your cup of tea, OK. But i had to say this. The women in these case are over 20 y.o. , they were posted here without any problem, that's why i make this post. However in Google Groups, as you said... there will be a "cut" for these stories.

Wow
These are strange days with this board.
I've been out of the country for a few weeks and come back to find the board cannot be accessed. I don't know if this is a prelude for things to come, but it seems like it's time to gather and save all the materials we can, because this board may not make it past 2018. That would be a shame, because this board has terrific writers and the stories give us a chance to explore our creativity without a lot of restraints. Hopefully things can turn for the better.

Re: WHAT is going on with the board?
Hello all. I strongly urge you if problems persist or your looking for a new forum try freecatfights.com it a website very similar to this. You can post your stories with no wird limit and its chat friendly like hostboard and its an adult site so you have to wirry about content. All forums of fights and sex are welcomed including incest and futa (if you are into that)
One major though. I actually dont like freecatfights current look especially for mobile phone but great news you can get the old layout of the site! Which is better IMO. If you come over to freecatfights and find the current layout not to your liking you can in your orofile settings switch to the old one. Please come over and give fcf a try. Think you guys will enjoy it. Iv been there for about 2 years and a half now and log in nearly everyday since i found it :)

Re: WHAT is going on with the board?
so FreeCatFights - Index it is? FreeCatFights General Category General Discussion about Titfights & Sexfights?

Re: WHAT is going on with the board?
Yikes, sorry to all for my spelling mistakes in my previous post. Promise i graduated high school with an 88 average in language arts lol. Typing on mobile puts my accurate spelling down.
Anyway i also wanted to say about freecatfights is you can post drawings and artworks of all kinds so artists like gotjack and thecatmanz is more than welcome to come over and show there talents.
Basically everything you do here you can do over there but one major huge bonus is some of the producers and owners of websites will be on there and they will reply back and talk to you. Sarah Brooke has replied to her fans there. The owner of Suitefights is a frequent visitor of fcf and he will reply back. Catfight-connections (ECC) visits the site to.
I must sound like a sales person to a free website lol but im juat presenting an alternative to Hostboard if problems keep going like this or come up again.
I love this site so and was disappointed for weeks i couldn't get in.

Re: WHAT is going on with the board?
First off, I want to let you all know that I've created a Google Group as a replacement for this forum. The link is Google Groups
(The group is set to Adults Only, so please make sure your Google account is set up with a birth year that allows you entry.)
I've never used Google Group before, so I'm currently testing it to see what it can do. Please feel free to join me there to test as well. I understand there are concerns about some stories being cut due to their content. I'm posting one of my own stories about twins fighting to see if it'll be allowed to stay. I hope it is.
In terms of freecatfights, I'm a member there, but the section they have on Titfighting and Sexfighting is not mine and not the replacement for this forum. I would like to mention that freecatfights is, in general, a pretty cool place to discuss female combat. I use it mainly to see producer's ads for upcoming videos, but read some lengthy discussions every now and then.

Re: WHAT is going on with the board?
I had a look at freecatfights and agree with XP. Though it has a few good stories, it is a poor imitation to the community as it supports mostly catfighting or mixed gender fights, with no focus on sexfights like the subforum claims. Searching is also disabled until you are approved, which seems to take ages.

Re: WHAT is going on with the board?
Over the past few days, I've been able to log on to the XP site pretty easily, using my Apple computer. Still having problems with speed on my PC laptop, but that could be due to other factors not related to the board. Even so, I am hopeful that the board is becoming accessible again.
This being said, there is no telling when it will next give out and, on top of that, the problems we have had with the board and the loss of access to numerous stories still speak to the need for better backups. As some of you who have been frequenting the Google board will know, I am in the process of putting all of my stories on the board. Once that is done, I will start uploading other stories from other writers. XP is putting in a new stories index page. Hopefully, this means that we can reproduce Anubis' incredible work on the new Google site.
For myself, I will continue posting my new stories on this board, for as long as it works. However, i will also post my stories on the Google site at the same time, to help keep it active.
Thanks,

Indris,
I had the same thoughts about Freecatfights...VERY serious about the fights and almost no emphasis on the sex. I posted one story there which generated minimal response. I doubt that I'll post there again as I write almost exclusively about the sex part of sexfights.

Re: WHAT is going on with the board?
One point about the Google site: one of the users has posted a comment that the stories being posted there are incomplete. This is wrong - the stories that I have posted ARE complete. However, to fully access them requires you to click on the "read clipped message" part of the post and to use the arrows on the side of the message box and the site itself to scroll up and down. It's a bit awkward sometimes, but it definitely works.
In posting some of my old stories, I've gotten the bug to write sequels to some of them. Hopefully, that means I'll be doing a bit more writing in the near future.
Finally, it looks like this board is finally working again. Fingers crossed that this continues.
