Some unkind people make fun of the Y2K prepper who has filled up his basement with beans and tuna. So there he is, with all that food and no money. (He may have even gone into debt, to fill up his basement.)

So as the weary months go by, it's beans and tuna, alternated by tuna and beans.

But then he finds out that he and his ilk are living 20 years longer than expected. Science may well conclude that this is absolutely the healthiest diet available. Talk about having the last laugh!

Add some brewskis and the combo would be absolutely lethal!

I had a friend who was a member of the VFW. He told me about one VFW dinner consisting of bratwurst, saurkrat and baked beans. And yes beer, plenty of that. He said he imagined a miasma rising up from all the bedsteads that night, like the start of some movie about the Curse of the Swamp Thing.

My great-grandparents came over from Germany and settled in the dry-land farm country of west Texas. I pretty much grew up around places with names like New Braunfels or Fredericksburg, and I'll tell you, I can hold my own with the sausage and kraut. Throw in a little warm potato salad and a cold Shiner Hefferweitzen and I'm home!

And the positive side is, that the next day you can go to the mall and not worry about anyone violating your "personal space".

I think if you told me that I would be living the next 20 years with no money, eating nothing but beans and tuna, I wouldn't be laughing all that much.

Nothing like a little "gastrointestinal disturbance" to make people not step on your toes... eh Lon?

My favorites together are hard boiled or deviled eggs, beer, and german sausage (of any kind) It will definitely put you on "low boil" for a few days...

    Sniffin'...
