I just watched two exciting football games but they were spoiled for me because I kept wondering how the TV gets that yellow "first down" line down on the field so fast.

I finally figured that there must be linear arrays of yellow lights beneathe the astro turf that are controlled by specially trained electrical engineers who are in radio contact with the refs. Ya think?

If man can devise that amazing yellow-line technology, it should be able to devise a world peace.

That's just silly. There are people specially trained to go out and paint the yellow line on the field. They do it very fast because they are professionals. They call themselves The Yellow Line Crew. Afterwards, the equally trained Erase The Yellow Line Crew comes out to remove the line.

    Question

LOL, do hockey games have a red line crew and an erase-the-red-line crew? Inquiring minds want to know.

Peter, I'm not a hockey fan but I remember a few years ago there was deal where the hockey puck would light up on TV. Is that still done? I thought it was a good idea because it's so hard to see the puck on TV.

What was the trick? I'm thinking a battery powered puck-light or a transparent puck filled with fire flies.

    America, what a country!

Lars, the only time I've watched hockey on the tube was about four years ago when the Washington Capitols were in contention for the Stanley Cup. When there was a shot on goal, a red line would appear, showing the path of the shot.

The red line you see is from the blood of the hockey players. It's a very violent game, you know.

Being subjected to a football game today, I asked about the yellow line. I was informed it was an electronic overlay. Isn't technology amazing?

Personally, I don't believe there IS such a thing as over-lay.
