There is work available, it's just never in your field, or what you want to do, or you don't have the experience, or you have too much experience (I've never figured that one out), or they can't afford to pay you what you'd earn, or...

I recently returned to my local job-centre to find it had turned into "1984"...touch screen
terminals to look for work. And you don't even
have to attend the job-centre much as you can
telephone for job searchs and check the vacancy's
on thier own web-site.....the age of technology

It freakin' sucks.

For me, it basically went from being in the Marines and having the authority of telling a pilot that a $30 million jet was ok to fly, to not being able to get a job at a small clothing store. And if you're in a small town, forget it. Be prepared to commute.

I hear that (being in a small town), they have just introduced new measures to get "long term unemployed" back into work by makeing them sign every week and expand thier job choices (ie take anything)...I talked to a women at job-centre and they were going away from this as forceing people into work did'nt work....but a government always looks good if people are not unemployed

When I was looking for a job a few years ago, I did a lot of searching over the internet at all the job websites. One thing I learned, contract companies (ones that find you temp work) aren't all that great in the computer biz. They will all interview you, but few call with real offers.

I'm lucky with my current job. Even with no degree, they took me and pay me well. And even with the sucky economy, we're doing well. I feel really blessed to have this job at times like these.
