and i'll let it burn for as long as it shall prevail.. as i watch the wick burning shorter and shorter, i am reminded of your life...
billy joel said it the best.. only the good die young..
if that's the case.. then you must have been the greatest..
i know.. i'm a day early, but i never was on time for anything..
i'll be with you soon, my heart..

24-hour candle vigil
in memoriam.. we are lighting 240 candles throughout the day, ending at approximately 1am, november 1, 2003..
the first ten candles have been lit and sent off.. every hour between now and then, another ten will be lit..
i wish i had a camera.. we're lighting them and setting them afloat in my pool.. in the dark.. all you can see is ten little lights flickering away..
the weather has been good so far, let's hope it stays that way...

"I'll lend you a little while a child of mine, " He said
For you to love and cherish, and mourn for when she's dead
It may be sixteen or seventeen years, or twenty two or twenty three
But will you, till I call her back, take care of her for me?
She'll bring her charms to gladden you, and should her stay be brief,
You'll have her lovely memories as solace for your grief.
I cannot promise she will stay, Since all from earth return
But there are lessons to be taught down here i want this child to learn.
I've searched this wide world ocer in search for teachers true
And from the throngs that crowd life's lanes, I have selected you.
Now will you give her all your love, nor think the labor vain,
Now hate me when i come to call, to take her back again?
I fancied that i heard you say, "Dear Lord, thy will be done,
For all the joy Thy child shall bring, the risk of grief we'll run,
We'll shelter her with tenderness, we'll love her while we may,
And for the happiness we've known, for ever grateful stay,
But should the angels come to call much sooner than we planned,
We'll brave the bitter grief that comes and try to understand........"
