Every profession uses jargon, including law enforcement, programmers, system administrators, and, of course, photographers. However, whereas most slang consists of phrases that are foreign to the average person, photographers enjoy changing the definitions of words that have been around for a while. Photographers are the only ones who are aware that a whale is not an animal, a hare is not a hare, a soap is not a soap box, a shoe is not a shoe, and a short end is not a cause for alarm.
