hey, as long as we're name-calling, did anyone happen to see Capt. Cupcake (Lochley) as the visiting French Pastry in Secret Adventures of Jules Verne? i have to admit she was more believable as Parisan Truffle then as a staff officer.

gee, and i thought my "hear the ocean" answer completely solved the scanning issue. it would be like trying to read a guy's mind when he's watching sports. all you're gonna here is "Interference! That wasn't interference!" etc.

i have to agree with ran. much like a presidential race, she had to choose between the lesser of two evils.

and she's only stuck with sheridan for 20 years. with lennier, it would have been for centuries.

PC, no it would have been very useful. Just because you scrap your attack plans doesn't mean that those troops aren't still in place. Sheridan would have known where they would have attacked from and how many there were, meaning that Earthdome could have got to them either still in place or during their retreat. And this isn't even to mention that Sheridan would have known members of the Resistance on Earth, moles and spies, who could have easily been collected and then interrogated/scanned themselves for even more information.

BMat, Sheridan choose to go to Zhadum because he was upset at what was done to his wife. He tells Franklin that he will exact revenge for who ever it was who was responisble for Anna's current situation.

He did not go for strategic reasons, but for personal reasons.

Had he not gone, the Shadows would not have attacked Babylon 5. Justin says as much. THey cannot kill Sheridan, because then others would rise up in his place. What they can do is remove his support structure, ie B5.

Additionally, in nuking Zahadum, Sheridan scatters the Shadows. The Shadows go to Centauri Prime because they cannot stay on Zahadum. By spreading the Shadow's influence, Sheridan action cause the Vorlons to pull out the planet killer and start destroying entire planets.

All this because Sheridan wanted revenge. I call that a Chowderhead move.

It would take a great deal to convince me that Sheridan honestly thought he would pick up ne info that he could bring back to the Alliance by going to Zahadum. Never mind trying to argue that Sheridan could find away of talking the Shadow minions he would meet at Zahadum out of their plans. Which pretty much means that he was willing to go to Zahdum, and die there, for revenge.

When you are the leader of a War movement, I call that irresponsible. So yeah, I consider it a Chowderhead move. Quite possibly the biggest mistake that he makes.

Beg to differ, Crash. Remember, Sheridan told Delenn he was going to Z'ha'dum to try to prevent what happened on Centauri Prime in the future he saw in WWE. Of course, as temporal mechanics work, he probably brought about that end. And of course, his going to Z'ha'dum has the unforeseeable consequence of meeting Lorien, understanding the nature of the conflict between Shadows and Vorlons, and figuring out how to stop their conflict once and for all.

He never would have learned that without going to Z'ha'dum.

Sheridan "scattered" the Shadows? Not really, he took out their main base of operations, and hurt them badly. Let's see, one man, one ship, major damage to the enemy. Strategically sound, I'd say. But the Shadows didn't increase their aggression by being "scattered." Remember, before Z'ha'dum, the Shadows were already on the offensive, driving refugees into one sector, to exterminate them. So being "scattered" had nothing to do with putting them on the offensive.

Yes, they did have to find new bases of operations, but there the story is really pretty weak, anyway. Militarily, you're not going to put all your forces in one place, anyway. Kinda like how we got our Pacific fleet sunk at Pearl Harbor. You just don't do that, especially when you're at war, as the Shadows were. Think Federation, think Star Trek, think star bases all over the place, that's how you do things. You only concentrate your forces right before an attack, or to defend against an attack if you see it coming. Keeping everything in one place makes it too easy to lose it all in one fell swoop. Since Shadows are "First Ones" I think we can assume a bit of intelligence on their part, and that they'd understand that.

Sheridan is a simple soldier, and he's good at it. He's not great with people. He's honest. And he's definitely not a politician. In a way, he's kinda like U.S. Grant, a simple, honest, straightforward man who was a tremendous soldier and a disaster of a president for those very reasons.
