My sympathies to you, Ian.
I just attended my uncle's funeral Saturday.
Sigh.
A friend told me, years ago when my step-father died, that it gets easier to deal with the death of loved ones as one gets older. After all, she told me, you have more practice as more of them pass.
It's only getting harder for me.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss, Ian.
May you and your family find comfort in her life and your memories of it.
Love,
Polly

My mother thanks you for the support. This hit her a lot harder than me.
The strangest thing is, that my uncle has been so ill over the years that everyone expected him to go first. And I mean everyone!
No-one expected my aunt to go. She was so full of life. She took care of my uncle, she pretty much ran everything in the local church, she ran several charities....she cared for my mother when she was ill, and near death when she had pneumonia.
No-one deserved death less. I always agreed with Galen, that the universe cannot be directed, otherwise it means that she deserved to die, and she did not.
My mother is Christian, as was my aunt, and is so struggling to cope.
At least I have 2 weeks to add my strength. To hug, to hold hands, and to cry with her if need be. My mother always described my father as "our rock" and that is what I intend to be for her now.
My strength shall be hers...

I am in no way trying to cut off the expressions of sympathy for Ian, but I thought I would let you folks know I am about to take off for a week and a half of vacation.
I'll be back the last week of August to get back to work and to school.
See you all then.
Ian, you are a rock, buddy. I am sure your mother appreciates your strength every day.
