RENT! RENT! RENT! RENT!
But only with John as Roger! *eg*
Of course not, I wouldn't care about who's play him, although John would be great!

Well Hedwig and the Angry Inch already was made a film..and actually done well!!! Other than Hedwig, which would've been my first choice..I have to say the Rocky Horror Show. I know the Rocky Horror Picture Show was made...but that suck big time. It is in no way representative of how good the Stage Show is..just a shame they made such a crap film of the show. Other than that I second the motion of Rent being recorded..with John as Roger of course!

Ohhhh Blood Brothers, imagine how good that could be on film.....ooh you've put ideas in my head now.
There would be no dry eyes in the world if they made that, could be so powerful.

Hmmm, I personally don't believe any musical stage performance should be turned into a movie - it kinda loses the magic of piece. However, I feel that *some* pieces that are movies first can be transferred successfully to the stage. I *like* the talk of possibly having Billy Elliot brought to stage or even Willy Wonka (both which were books before movies and imho the Billy Elliot book which I read first topped the movie although I thought the movie was great!). And, even though I'm not a big Cats fan, the numerous times I've seen it on stage far tops seeing the video - leaving out Growltiger in the video was a major downfall.
It's just not the same when sitting in your living room watching a musical performance compared to sitting in a theatre amongst a live band + singing and an audience.

Humm yeah I agree with you to a point, however I think the movie 'Chicago' is better than the stage version (although they left out some of the best songs).
I think if there is a strong enough story line (such as the one in Blood Brothers) they can bring that out really well and focus on that rather than the tunes. Same goes for Rent, that has a pretty strong story line.
I think the downfall of Cats is that the story line isn't that obvious..it's hard enough to get a narrative through on stage, even harder on screen.
If you get me!
I agree with you though, the live show of CATS (and most other musicals/plays) beat video/film productions hands down (except for chicago of course..)

Although...through film, they can reach a wider audience, and those who havent been lucky enough to see it on stage can experience it through film.....*hugs singin' in the rain*
