yeah he got an offer to play ball at Tech

I can't say I blame him for going pro if the second best choice was to play at Tech.
Not trying to bash VT but... they get dominated in the ACC.

That and at the time Tech was in the Big Least, and baseball sucks big time in those parts (not withstanding when Miami was there too).

    Re: Longworth?

he cant play college baseball, because in order to have elgiblity you can only play like 2 years at that point you have two years elgibility remaining. but to get that 2 years you have to pass atleast 24 hours (2 semesters of college). he can however play four years of basketball.

    Re: Longworth?

Dane, i'm fairly sure that a player who has signed a pro contract can compete at the NAIA level providing he files a hardship claim. most of the time (at least it's my understanding) the NAIA will grant eligibility.

    Re: Longworth?

I would say Dane has it correct. I think its hard to believe the NAIA lets people do this. Sort of take the amatuer out of it, but gives kids a chance that screws up.

    Re: Longworth?

well the only reason i said this was because Jason Nixon was gonna play at Wise, and they told him that he had to sit out a year to get elgible (sp?) and once he had sat out a year he could play for two years.

from what i have heard over the years by coaches is, that you can only play up to two years and if you wanna go back and give college a try than you will be considered a junior athletically.

however you can go back and play 4 full years if it is a different sport. i.e. Kelly Washington who played a few years in the minors, then played at UT for two years. And because he had been out of h.s. for like 5-6 years he did not have to wait until he was a junior to enter the draft.
