<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">some are doing allright (lawyer, teacher, mortian), but as mentioned in another post look at guys like Lugar, and you gotta think how many of these former millionaries are struggling to get by. </div></div>

That was my point you won't see their stories on the WWE's where are they now page.

All sports have the previous millionaire now the minimum wager. Wrestling just happens to be the hot topic. Ya gotta feel sorry for any athlete that falls so sharply. Then again maybe you dont feel sorry for them...they are after all grown men and women.

Nascar has done abotu the same with its past stars. Ricky Morton was arrested not to long ago in Kingsport I believe over child support. FYI Ricky Morton was in the Rock and Roll Express back in the days when wrestling was the shiznit. I seen Jimmie Boogia woogie man Valiant out at the fair a few rs back.

Buff Bagwell was at the fair in Pennington a few years back. Not exactly the same crowds he used to perform for.

Bobby Eaton (Midnight Express) is living in Kingsport now also. Next to Center Street in the Krispy Kreme area.

When I used to work with the local shows I met a few former stars of the big time. None sadder than Buddy Landel. He'd turned into a drunk and big time pill head.

Re: Wrestling can leave lives on the ropes

I was a big wrestling fan when I was younger. I grew up watching legends like Harley Race, Wahoo McDaniel, Ric Flair, Greg Valentine, Blackjack Mulligan, Dusty Rhodes, Ricky Steamboat, Paul Jones, etc.

Before they sold the promotion to Ted Turner, Jim Crockett Promotions used to have a regional promotion through the Carolinas, Virginia, West Virginia etc. They ran shows locally in small gyms like Clinch Valley College. They also had a weekly program called Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling that would eventually be launched into World Championship Wrestling before WWE bought them out.

There was also a small promotion over in the Knoxville area than ran shows in the tricities area called Southeast Championship Wrestling. They had wrestlers like Ronnie Garvin, the Fullers, Mongolian Stomper, [richard] Slater, Jos Leduc, etc.

Those were what I call the "glory days."

I'm sure there has always been problems with drugs and alcohol and steroids as long as they've been around. But, the modern era of wrestling has become a suicide mission for the guys who get involved in it. Luger's story is particularly sad to see where he came from and how far he fell, but the truth is that there are a lot of stories even more tragic than his.

Re: Wrestling can leave lives on the ropes

I remember those days well myself. Seemed like Mid Atlantic was at Dobyns Bennet HS every other weekend when I was a kid. I'm not sure the business was any cleaner back then, but I enjoyed it a lot growing up.

Was reading an article this morning and had no idea some of these wrestlers had passed away this year also. Seems like a curse.

Saw the Boogie Woogie Man a couple of weeks ago walking down the street. He lives in this area and runs a wrestling school.
