I like McGwire, I think hes still relevent. He will always be a bash brother and have a place as a guy that hit 47 homeruns as a bone skinny rookie. He may not be hall of fame worthy, but he was a good player and I guarantee the majority of folks were cheering for him when he hit #62 that season. You cant put any asterisks beside one persons name. If they put an asterisk over one persons name, they have to do it for the whole era because it wasnt one person that took steroids. Youre gonna have to start the asterisk in the 80s with Canseco. Then youre gonna have to put an asterisk beside Cal Ripken Jr's ironman record because he played in the same era. And then you are going to have to put an asterisk beside Tony Gwynn's batting titles because he played in the same era. Its not quite as simple as some people think.

This thread sure has deviated. Imagine that.

    Re: 756

I will agree with you on that part Mega. I don't like Bonds, but it has nothing to do with him breaking McGwire or Aaron's records. No asterick is needed either. The whole era is subject to the questions and affects. Pitchers were using it, and like I've always said basehits turned into lineouts (it wasn't just pop flies that turned into homeruns, the bloopers had enough carry to be outs). Maybe Tony Gwynn never touched a roid, but the pitcher he got bloop hits off did use them, and if the pitcher threw his normal velocity, some of Tony's hits would have carried to flyballs.

Bonds was a great player before any of the 'roids' came up. Bonds was also an asshat before any of the 'roids' came up.
What we've got here is failure to communicate. Some men you just can't reach, so you get what we had here last week which is the way he wants it. Well, he gets it.

An article about the equipment, you try to make fun of it. Shoot, in another place, as soon as someone started in on it, you started screaming junk about racists.

And as for your 'dont say diddity poo' to mr caps locks, thats because mr caps locks was banned.....he had been warned before, did I ban you? No I just took exception to the way you deal with it. Your right, when people say things about Bonds, they don't know him, neither do you. You want to crack on the media making him a bad guy, fine, crack on them. There are plenty of bad guys, but Bonds was considered a bad guy before he started getting better as he got older (completely opposite of nearly every other person in the world), so the homerun affect just adds to it.</div></div>

I didnt rip the article about equipment, it was a well written article. Huckleberry came off as racist in one of the vick threads, although if there was a problem there, why didnt you just post in that thread? Barry Bonds records have nothing to do with racism. It sounds like you got upset about something you didnt even know about. I think there is a lack of information there on your part.

Thats fine, your opinion on baseball players is fine, but you didnt have to bring my name into it. If you had a problem, all you had to do was pm me. Youve been awful crochety lately, Im not really sure why but thats life I suppose.

nobody saw it because espn never showed it(FSN did) but the days leading up to the game last night, Ali, Jordan, Montana, and Gretzky all wished him good luck in breaking the record on the jumbotron.

He can deny all he wants to along with all his rabid fans. But, when he lays his head on his pillow at night and closes his eyes, he knows he cheated. He can't lie to himself. There is satisfaction in knowing his conscious will always remind him of that.

    Re: 756

i hate bonds with a passion and think that this is without a doubt a tainted record

this now poses a whole new issue regarding the HOF

since bonds is now the owner of the most revered record in all of sports........deservingly or now........he will without a doubt get voted in.......but that also means that guys like mc gwire and palmiero also deserve to get in........and if bonds does and they dont......the [censored] hall should be burned down

I'm not going as far as to say burn down the HOF. But this definitely will make the voters have to rethink their "Nobody on steroids is going to taint our hallowed halls." McGuire was kept out his first year on the ballot because of steroid suspicion, silent admission, whatever. Based on that merit, Bonds should also be kept out on his first ballot for the same reason. And, as MASN sportscaster Bob Carpenter said, "There are fans out there who will still consider Hank Aaron as the Home Run King until somebody passes Barry Bonds."

The record is tainted. Either in reality or in the minds of millions (just a guestimate), there is a stain in the record books now. It has nothing to do with race or anything like that. It's a performance-enhance substance thing now. And yes, I cheered for McGuire and Sosa in 1998. I also frowned heavily on McGuire's admittance to using Andro, which was legal at the time. But, as many people have said, that's why it is known now as the "Steroid Era."
Looking for my Darcy, but finding only Wickham. Right now, I'd settle for Bingley.
