Re: Boxing/MMA Fights - local, national, world

Sims REALLY disappointed me and Rampage lol.
I just knew Sims would use his reach and KO Wren, but I was totally off.
He has too much experience to be choked out that easily, either he forgot it all or just gave up.

Can team Rampage win a fight? Scott Junk is supposedly their best fighter, and Marcus is a monster, I have a feeling when he fights, someone will get their face busted up.

Is it me, or is Matt Mitrione, a former NFL player, a *****? He whines and whines and whines.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship is expected to make its Virginia debut in January.

Sources close to the event have told MMAjunkie.com (UFC blog for UFC news, UFC rumors, fighter interviews and event previews/recaps | MMAjunkie.com) UFC Fight Night 20, which would air on Spike TV, is currently slotted for Monday, Jan. 11.

However, the UFC has made no formal announcement, and a representative from Virginia's Professional Boxing, Martial Arts and Wrestling Program said no date is official.

Additionally, while the cable station has begun preparations for the first quarter of 2010, including tryouts for "The Ultimate Fighter 11" and the show's April 2010 debut, Spike TV Vice President of Communications David Schwarz said nothing is official.

"We have nothing to announce yet for 2010," he said.

The UFC would enter a new state with the upcoming event. The UFC has never ventured to Virginia, though UFC president Dana White has said in the past that the state (especially near the Washington D.C. area) could be a site for future expansion. Additionally, UFC Vice President of Talent Relations Joe Silva currently lives in Virginia and scouts many of the area's shows.

At least one site believed to be under consideration for UFC Fight Night 20 is the 11,000-seat Patriot Center on the George Mason University campus in Fairfax.

UFC Fight Night events are traditionally held on Wednesdays or Saturdays, though the first of 2010 will apparently take place on a rare Monday.

According to mixedmartialarts.com, a bout between UFC newcomers Rory MacDonald (9-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) and Mike "Joker" Guymon (11-2-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC) is un-signed but in the works for the upcoming show.

Re: Boxing/MMA Fights - local, national, world

Two years, four completed MMA fights (and two future ones) and three completed K-1 fights (and two upcoming ones) have filled the time since Alistair Overeem most recently fought for Strikeforce.

The Dutch fighter hasn't competed in the U.S. promotion since he defeated Paul Buentello for the first-ever belt in November 2007.

Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker, though, is adamant we'll see the title-holder back in the cage pretty soon.

During a conference call today to promote the organization's Nov. 7 debut on CBS and a title fight between middleweight contenders Jake Shields and Jason "Mayhem" Miller, Coker fielded some questions about the organization's other title-holders.

The heavyweight title hasn't been defended in two years, the Shields vs. Miller fight crowns a champion after current middleweight champ Cung Le's 20-month break from competition, and injuries have kept lightweight champ Josh Thomson out of action for 16 months.

"You'll see Overeem and some of the (other) fighters early next year," Coker assured.

When pressed on when exactly we could see Overeem, whom many have labeled a potential opponent for Fedor Emelianenko (who fights Brett Rogers on Nov. 7), he gave his most precise prediction of late.

"Probably late February or early March," he said.

Since winning the title, Overeem has gone 3-0 (with one no-contest) in DREAM and Golden Glory in overseas events. He also went 2-1 in K-1 and is slated to fight twice more before year's end.

Overall, Overeem is 4-1 since June 2007 and has emerged as a top-15 fighter in the heavyweight division. A potential Overeem vs. Emelianenko title fight could be one of the biggest fights in Strikeforce history.

Re: Boxing/MMA Fights - local, national, world

It's one thing to nab Fedor Emelianenko and retain the rights to Gegard Mousasi, now Strikeforce may have awakened the beast by stealing Dan Henderson from the UFC. Henderson, who has been pining for a title rematch against Anderson Silva, finally gave up on that possibility and according to Yahoo! Sports' Kevin Iole is going to sign with Strikeforce
The obvious fights for the 205-pound Henderson with Strikeforce/Showtime have to be Mousasi and newly signed Mo Lawal. There may not be a ton of depth for Henderson to run through but at 39-years-old, he's clearly jumping at one final chance to make big money and the opportunity to fight on CBS. Strikeforce debuts its first CBS card on Nov. 7.
UPDATE:According to MMA Fanhouse, management on both sides say no deal is done.
"We had a brief get-to-know-you session with (Strikeforce) and met them for coffee, but to say he's close to signing would be a gross misrepresentation," said Henderson business partner Aaron Crecy said.
When reached by FanHouse, Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker said, "We've had dialogue with Dan but that's all I'd like to say."
UFC president Dana White has often called Strikeforce, "Strikefarce" saying Scott Coker's promotion is too small to swim in the deep waters:

A welterweight clash between heavy hitting Brit, Paul “Semtex” Daley and former WEC champion, Carlos Condit is reportedly set for UFC 108 on January 2nd in Las Vegas, Nevada.

According to a report by Fighters Only Magazine, a source close to the fight has confirmed that both men have verbally agreed to meet and bout agreements will be issued in the coming days.

Daley was impressive in his long awaited octagon debut, knocking out top ranked contender, Martin Kampmann in the very first round. As for Condit, he rebounded from his debut loss with the UFC to defeat Jake Ellenberger at UFC Fight Night 19 last month.

Re: Boxing/MMA Fights - local, national, world

this is strictly a rumor, makes sense though...someone that will stand and bang with kimbo

Fiveouncesofpain.com appears to have the scoop on this potential slugfest:

A slugfest between Kimbo Slice and Houston Alexander is looking like a strong possibility for UFC 107.

A source close to the situation advised FiveOuncesofPain.com today that although no bout agreements have been sent, at least one of the fighters has been formally approached about the possibility of the bout.

UFC 107 is scheduled for December 12 from Memphis, Tennessee, and will feature a headlining lightweight championship bout between B.J. Penn and Diego Sanchez.

Kimbo would be coming off of the heels of his appearance on “The Ultimate Fighter: Heavyweights“, and his recent TUF 10 loss at the hands (and moon-sized belly) of Roy “Big Country” Nelson. Prior to his stint at the TUF house Kimbo suffered a lightning quick TKO defeat to Seth Petruzelli after racking up wins over guys like Tank Abbott and James “Colossus” Thompson.

Alexander recently bounced back into the winners circle with a first round TKO over Sherman Pendergarst during Adrenaline IV in September, following three consecutive defeats with the UFC.

Re: Boxing/MMA Fights - local, national, world

A lightweight bout between Gray Maynard (8-0 MMA, 6-0 UFC) and Nate Diaz (11-4 MMA, 6-2 UFC), two of the top fighters to come out of the fifth season of "The Ultimate Fighter" reality series, is set for UFC Fight Night 20's main event in January.

Diaz's camp announced the bout via its official Web site, GracieFighter.com, and MMAjunkie.com has confirmed Maynard will likely earn a future title shot if victorious at the show.

Although not officially announced, UFC Fight Night 20 takes place Jan. 11 in Fairfax, Va.
