Here's my update:
If Lebanon and Gate City are really some of the best teams we've got in the area, I'm afraid we're in deep, deep trouble when we have to start playing teams outside of SW VA. Some of the sloppiest, dumbest football I've seen in a long time. Penalties everywhere, passes that could not be completed, drives that could not be finished, the worst offensive line known to mankind (Gate City's tonight), and the list goes on and on. Lots of work to do on both sides. I'm still baffled as to how Lebanon screwed up so badly on the punt, allowing Gate City to return it for a huge gain leading up to the game winning touchdown. They really lost all momentum in the second half, and acted as if they didn't even want to be out there. I saw very little fire from either side, or desire to play hard and win. I can't recall the last time I saw so many hanging heads and droopy postures on the Gate City sideline, even as they were coming back and winning. Perhaps it was just me, but that's how I felt about each team tonight. Agree? Disagree? Discuss!

The worst showing I have seen from Gate City since the end of last season. No fire at all and I am afraid things may end up like last year. How they came away with the win even with the two very bad calls made on the last drive of the game is beyond me! I hope the fire comes back soon! If not they will be lucky to win many more games.

You apparently just watched the first half. There was plenty of fire in the second half. Vaughn had 100 yards rushing in the second half against one of the better defenses in the area. The line play was very good in the 2nd half. No matter how ugly it was, it was a huge win for GC.

Didn't watch it but its a GC/Lebanon matchup. Not going to be a 'pretty' game by definition hardly ever. Lebanon is normally pretty basic, but good at what they do. Gate City is pretty much a team that isn't going to often beat themselves. They appear to be a take what they are given team. Anybody that expected that to be a shootout or a game where the offenses 'won' doesn't know the teams IMO.

Lebanon's defense wasn't what done them in against Tazewell. They gave up 0 points. Special teams gave up 2 punt returns for tds. They lost 14-7.

It was a huge win for GC over a vastly overrated Lebanon team, I'll give them that much. You're right that Lebanon's defense is tough, but apparently not tough enough to stopTazewell the game before. Both teams played poorly and sloppily in my opinion, and I rarely (if ever) saw any truly bright spots from either. Yes, Vaughn did well in the second half after Lebanon lost every bit of fire they had and started to let up and make ridiculous mistakes. Even then, Gate City had to rely on big breaks such as the huge punt return to come back and win the game. That's just my opinion, though. I'll eventually upload the video so that the other folks can form their own opinions about how each team performed. I think the fact still stands: If these teams are among the best we've got, we're in big trouble.

That could possibly explain the comeback they handed Gate City in the second half with that huge punt return by Vaughn. They need to seriously tighten up on special teams if it has happened to them even before.
