I am pretty sure Burton is trying to get in there as well within the next couple of years.
I spent a couple of hours with some of the Sullivan North coaches Thursday, and they sais they were playing four SW. Va schools in 2011. Haysi, JJ Kelly, Coeburn, and Powell Valley. They said it came down to GC and PV for last game and they thought they could compete better with PV, they also put Sullivan South back on the schedule.

They said they went basically through the standings one team at a time. I spoke to the person who spoke to Coach Adams and he said they were good for next year. Va. High, John Battle, Patrick Henry, Honaker, Lebanon all said no, But the funny thing was some coaches had their players call back and would not talk to them. It is getting harder and harder for North to find games, they were ready to schedule Hampton and Cloudland and Unaka but all said to wait, and none of the Greene County schools will play us in regular season.
I think that either way, it'll be neat seeing Sullivan North back in action again versus some of the LPD and former-LPD teams! I remember that when they used to play Appalachia in the 90s and Powell Valley in the mid 00's, they would lose more often than not. I wonder how the results would be today? I hope that they can get around to picking up Gate City, too.
Well what I was told by one member of the staff over the weekend,is we could be playing North or Haysi maybe both. Colley told Adams if they played with North he would keep them on the schedule, North's coach was waiting on what Haysi decided. So, if going by that were getting Haysi back on, and maybe North in last weeks slot since Honaker dropped us.
Also told we might be going to East Montgomery, Gretna or Morristown to pick u a game as others have said no or don't return calls. Said they have tried Sullivan Central & East both said no as well as Volunteer.
North will be decent team next year they lose alot on offense but the defense should be solid the O-line is young two freshman and So. They run wing-T and the best back they have was not eligible so him and his brother will be back there together next yr. There JV has just lost twice and the eighth grade was regional champs last year. It looks like with so many people needing games that the coaches could put aside a little pride and schedule each other. But when some coach gets his feelings hurt from 10 years ago there is nothing you can do, except find someone else to play.
I'm not sure North has ever beat us. Intersting thought, I'm going to have to dig up my old info.
I was in high school then and knew we won pretty easily on both occasions. I didn't think we had played them prior to that but wasn't for sure. That's when we got on that big kick of just playing out of state teams because nobody around here would play us (sigh, the good ole days).
Nope, they sure haven't. The only times they played Powell Valley were in 2003 (48-14, PV) and 2004 (33-7, PV).
They played Appalachia in 1994 (13-10, North), 1995 (29-7, Appy), 1996 (28-17, Appy), 1997 (46-28, Appy), and 1998 (24-6, North).
I think they might have played Appalachia one or two other times, though. The MyGameFilms website has a 2000 game with those two teams, so it's interesting that I don't see the score from that year reported anywhere.
Sorry about that pvfan, deleted then reposted my original post because I'd remembered the Appy footage from 2000 from North and didn't want to seem like I was saying 1998 was the last year they played Appalachia. The 2000 footage between North and Appalachia clearly says otherwise, so those are some scores I'm missing. I swear I seem to recall them playing in 1999 too.
