Maggard is every bit as good as Miles IMO. Also, their QB can throw the ball when he needs to. Burton has a good offense, but their lack of size on defense may be a problem for them against Union.

    Re: Burton

Good lord everyone took what I said completely out of proportion it seems. All I was saying is people make fun of us having a soft schedule but who else can we play, that's my point. It serves us no purpose to play a school 10 times our size other than get destroyed and get people hurt. Being a small school 1 injury can severly impact a season. Why the hell did everyone get their panties in a bunch because of what I said, geez.

Love how people start throwing out you kill everyone around here then can't seal the deal upstate???? News flash, neither Burton nor Clintwood could seal the deal upstate recently.

And whomever said all Burton has is Miles must not have a much of a clue or seen us play. This is one of the more well balanced teams we have had since Jaycob Coleman and Martinez Miles, maybe more so now because we have a good QB. Miles, Dean, and Maggard all average over 10.0 yards per carry and if the Kingsport was right this past friday then we have the Top 3 rushers in SWVA in order. They had them all screwed up so not for sure on that last stat.

Then you add in a nice passing game and we are very balanced. We just haven't had to throw the ball much so far this year. Our defense this year is down compared to the last 5-8 years.

Hazard only had 9 games this season and they are numbers wise in the 300 range plus reasonably close pick those guys up

KY is a completely different animal than what we have over here. There is a lot of recruiting and athletes going to one school and scholars going to another over there especially amongst Perry, Breathitt, Letcher, Knott and Leslie counties.

    Re: Burton

Strength of schedule means ALOT come playoff time. Look at any state Champion (not runner up) and see who they played outside of there district. using old examples mixed with new ones here, PV- Richlands, Radofrd, Lee, Gatecity. All at that time double A except Radford who was D2 A. Appy- Sulivan north, Gatecity, Daniel Boone, and others. Gatecity- Bluefield, Richlands, Sullivan South, Powell Valley.
Playing up makes your team better when you face eastcoast playoff teams. You have to play quality opponents to get better.
Another example is JJ Kelly. They always played weak teams and never did good because of that reason. JJ Kelly was 5 and 0 a couple years ago when pv went up there and beat them 12 ot 0 but JJ Kelly had beat Ryecove, castlewood, twinsprings, thomas walker, and some small ky school. You play down and beat weak teams you dont learn nothing, you play up and lose close games to good teams you learn how to win in certain situations.

Miles (45-517) and Maggard (38-418) were the next two behind Lee's Graham, Hazlett (62-412) was next, then Dean (28-383). Of course that's just by the few teams that submitted stats to them, not sure if the BHC has had any up. Just from what I can see, I'd say Honaker's Jerod Honaker and Hurley's Tyler Berglowe were up there in the 480 area. Tyler Barker and Lebanon's Crhis Belcher looked to be in the 440-460 area at that time. These all not including this past Friday's games. Tyler Graham still looks to be leading including even this past Friday with 723 yards on 56 carries...through just 3 games. Don't know what Miles had this past week, but Berglowe rushed for 167 (on 13 att.), Honaker had 149 yards.

I respect your opinion but must disagree. I haven't watched the Raiders this year, that I'll admit, but I'm sure they have more than Miles. Riley Maggard is every bit as important in the backfield. Also, J.I. Burton has the best quarterback and passing game in the LPD and perhaps all of Southwest Virginia.
    Officially retired

They have 3 backs with 100+ yard games, plus one of the best qb's in the area. And 1) Norton is still in talks with WC and 2) they would be Eastside, so I don't even know how that would "fix their numbers" when they would be part of another school.

And I'm not sure their numbers are that bad, they had 330 kids in 2009 I believe, they picked up some from Appy, so I'd assue it's still over 300 and not barely over 200.
