That is the nature of man and civilization, death and violence has been constant throughout the creation of the world, what makes it different now?
    Ill tell ya!
Parents, parental control or more closely the lack there of. Much of the of this is in dscussion because of Columbine, the witch hunt began there and it has not stopped. They are things young adults should not see, granted they are goin to see things no matter yet to curb the amount is the job of a parent. Still, when something goes wrong how many parents have ever said "I was a bad parent, I did not do my job" instead we hear its the music, its the games its the movies/TV shows, while CNN, FOX News Etc spend 24 hours a day showing us pictures of kids running from a school, blood soaked, death everywhere, live footage from the War in Iraq fills our TV stations while the country preaches we are in a situation of no hope there, what is a youth supposed to do?
Listen to a parent, have a parent explain tha they are realdangers in the world, that TV/MOVIES/MUSIC are what they are, yet you cannot hold them to the same light as reality, they are what they are, fantasy. Teach kids to solves problems in a non violent manor, do not children, young adults etc be exposed to material they are not suited for, be and EXAMPLE for your children, if someone cuts you off do not react with anger, they will do the same, do not argue in front of your children, they wiill do the same, the majoirty of the violence, sexual harrasment and abuse by children/young adults are cause by what they see at home. Be a parent, set and example of what to be while explaining what not to be.

    Re: Teen-Violence

The cause is probably nothing to do with TV or video games. It all starts at home...if a kid is abused or sees their parents fight their whole life all they know is violence. Sometimes it all comes down to the kid and self control, if they are going to do it then its their decision in the end IMO.

    Re: Teen-Violence

I definitely do not think that the source of violence seen in teens today is a result of the music they listen to, shows/movies they watch, or games they play. In order to be violent I think a kid has to have some sort of precursor to violent behavior, like violent parents or other family members or any mental or emotional problems that would cause them to act out. If music, movies, or games made kids violent, then everyone would be violent because who hasn't seen a action movie or listened to a song about being angry or played a game in which the purpose is to defeat something.
I definitely agree that preventing teen violence starts at home with the partents. No question about that. Kids respond the way they see their parents respond and if there is violence in a home, a kid is more likely to be violent.
But there will always be violent people in the world and as long as they have kids and their kids learn to act like that, there will always be violence. But maybe one day there will be enough non-violent people in the world that the violent people will be few and far between and not cause that much of a problem if violent behavior is looked down upon.

    Re: Teen-Violence

Im not gonna make this a speech. I think it's obvious.
Lack of parenting, discipline, respect, and anything that resembles teaching ethical and moral values, from home to school.
We allowed this years ago, thanks to laws that killed our right to discipline, in schools and basically at home also.
No more do we have any moral system or discipline system in our schools or our homes.
Kids are free to do as they want and what they want. Parents are held captive as far as discipline and so are schools.
Back in the day. You got sent home for three days for suspension. You got your butt busted. Today kids use it, to get an extra break when they want one. They know mom and dad can't do anything, cause the phrase, i'll call social services on you is worn out.
This country has let it's ethical issues ruin it.
We have no discipline or moral or ethical values taught in the homes or schools.
What else can you ask for?
We all are to blame for teen violence. And those who follow my generation. Well i've read on here how it is gonna be, think it's bad now. Ole saying you ain't seen nothing yet.
Well you ask for it, you got it.
Maybe you will see the mistakes you ask for and change it, before your kids are in their teens. Then again you may think, ah what were to hard on them as it is?
Then you will wish you had read some of this.
Is it the music? Is it the movies? Is it this or that.
I think all three do contribute some, to kids who already are thinking about doing things, or are having problems, just like music you use to fire you up at a football game? What's the difference in a song, that takes you to the brink of doing something violent?
What is the most popular post on here? What kinds of music and movies do you like? Well think about a few things. What influences you and what you think about and do? How your taught, what you see, and what you do. No not every one who watches violent movies, goes out and becomes violent. But to those who have a mind set to do those things, such movies increase the desire. Like it's a thrill adrenline(sp) rush.
Just like your school fight song fires you up during a football game.
But honestly, it's a lack of morals, and a lack of parental guidance, parents today, out of sight out of mind attitude, not all but many, and yes a lack of any of the three above being taught in the homes, schools and churches.
Sorry but true. You control what is heard and viewed and taught.
    Who has failed who?
I think we all have in many different ways, we have accepted things for normal, that once we use to not allow or tolerate.
Problem is now, how do we fix, what we let get torn up.
Before the next generation coming is left even further behind.
Im not sure who or what is to really blame.
And im probably not the person to be a role model myself and wouldn't ask to be.
But i see good kids get lost every day somewhere on that path to adulthood.
But we do need to fix whatever is going wrong.
