Re: Downloading

here are my thoughts on the issue. I'm not going to argue my points with anyone and I'm not going to look down on anyone either. these are just my thought on the subject.

I don't like that music and movies are downloaded the same day they are released. I believe it to be not a good thing and if it is a band that I really like I want to support them all I can. They get screwed my the industry enough as it is.
now on the flip side, If an album is out of print or you can only get it by import mean's then I'm all for that being downloaded.
If you can't go to your local cd store and buy or special order it to come in then the only you can get it is by Ebay, used stores and downloading I don't have a problem at all because those three methods have one thing in common. The artist doesn't get any money from them. I have a feeling that most will have no problem downloading a brand new cd. Like I said, I'm just giving my personal feeling and I will not agure my points to try to change anyone's opinion. I'm just wondering what percentage does what on here. The rock site I visit all the time seems to be 80% support the artist to 20% downloading is ok. Just wondering

You all have a great day and thanks for taking the time to participate in this little poll.

We download music - but from iTunes. No freebies for us.

Re: Downloading

It's an easy thing for me. The new Clutch album comes out on June 21. I've had the last 4 albums at least a month before they come out. Today I got the new one. On June 21 I'll be picking up the fancy store bought one. I've actually talked to the members of the band, they know their stuff is out early, they don't seem too concerned. Of course they've seen me at over 30 shows and I know them pretty well, so I think they know I'm going to get it. I'm not going to say that I've never downloaded something that I didn't buy though. It's probably a 10:1 ratio of bought to not, though. It costs probably 1/10 to manufacture a cd compared to the actual cost. I hope with all the illegal downloading that goes on that the recording industry will realize that their overpricing is a factor in the problem and do something about it.

Re: Downloading

here's my take on it. someone puts the files on the internet to share. when i download, i firmly believe that i am simply copying something that someone else owns. it's kind of like cassette tapes in the 80s. if one of my friends would buy the latest michael jackson, milli vanilli cassette, he or she would let us copy it. i think it's the same principle. just my thoughts.

Re: Downloading

I do download some stuff. A lot of the time, if it's a band or artist I'm unfamiliar with and they don't have music link's on their website or don't even have a website, I try to find a song to download and check them out. But if I'm a fan of an artist, I buy the CD. Just because I do download some, doesn't mean I think it's okay.

Afterall, it's someone else's work, their creation, and essentially downloading is stealing.
