You need to have a copy of windows that you are running. with an activation code. Put disk into cd drive and then follow instrutions. it is simple.
Somebody please help me out and tell me how to reformat my hard drive, my comp is really being a piece of crap and i need to reformat it to clear the problem out but i have no idea how to do so.

You may need to to a System Restore, but that will get rid of anything you have saved.

if you are running XP there is probably a recovery built into the system

I have XP ... but yeah thats what I want to do, just a complete system restore ... I want to get rid of everything on my computer ...just start from scratch .. Im at work until 3am , so if somebody can help me out before then that would be great bc I cant get on mine at the house.

If you want to do a restore you do have to have the restore disks that came with your computer to reprogram it afterwords. To do a restore just go to programs, accessories, system tools, system restore. But don't do that unless you have the software to reprogram. You can also restore to an earlier date. That could solve your problems.

If you want to do a complete re-format just pop in your XP disk and follow directions.
