I was just sitting here listening to some SOAD, and started to wonder who everyone else thought some of the better "politically" driven songwriters of the last few years were?..
IMO, it has been System of a Down and Rage Against the Machine hands down, i dont think anyone can hold a candle to them..
anyone else have any input?

great thing is tho, some bands may write a song or two being "politically" driven, but with System, every song they write you can convey a meaning from it...

System is playing up in Hampton in August. I'm going to try and go...I would love to see them live.
noone will write more politically driven songs any better than rapper immortal technique, his brilliance is unparallel to any that I have ever heard in that department.

Zack De La Rocha compares to none. Every RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE SONG is a story of life and how most never see and wanna see it nor care to see it. People of the Sun, Freedom, etc etc. SOAD is a good band but their songs arent "political" as many thinks. Serj and Darron write more about what pisses them off politically than actual historical lessons, different views and what can be done to change them. RATM provides web links in the booklets to go and research for yourself the subject matter of their songs. This is a good topic, Dropkick Murphys also put a good flavor on the political/history scene with their songs. But like I said before RATM harkens back to the 60's with its content driven songs. If they get air play fine, if they dont thats fine too, someone is gonna get the message.

heres a track from immortal technique...i wont post it because I dont feel like people complaining about how much the dude hates america(hes not american) and his conspiracy theories.....regardless, he does have an artisitic talent on politics....who knows, maybe some of his theories hold water, we as citizens may never know.
Corrosion of Conformity is another good one. Songs like Vote With A Bullet and Long Whip/Big America come to mind immediately.
