What we've got here is failure to communicate. Some men you just can't reach, so you get what we had here last week which is the way he wants it. Well, he gets it.
* Blu-Ray Problems
* Pricing
* Performance Problems (Hard to program for; Cell processor gives problems)
* No "Wow" Factor
* Crappy Games
* Copy-Cat ("Me Too!") Methods
(Motion sensors = Wiimote
Online "Entitlements" = 360 XBOX Live "Achievements"
Downloadable Genesis/Turbo Grafx games = Wii downloadable NES/SNES/N64 games)
(All of which are clearly inferior to the designs they copied.)
It's just a very unimpressive system.
The Playstation was a great system, yes.
The Playstation 2 was a VERY good system, yes.
But the Playstation 3 looks very lackluster IMO.
I gotta give it to Sony. They can really hook the fans..
Officially retired
To all of you who think there are problems with the PS3, go ahead and believe what you will. This is only, and I repeat ONLY, a ploy by Sony to drive up demand for the PS3 before the launch date to ensure massive sales when the systems finally reach stores en masse. Any of you remember when the PS2 came out? Same exact thing.

yeh... but the very first runs of PS2's had problems.. they would read some discs... trust me i had one... i had to send it back to sony 5 times.. then they finally gave up and gave me a refurbished system.. i still love the PS2 and the support i got from sony though.. and i plan on pickin up a PS3 as soon as possible... just saying.. they said they had some problems with the ps2 and alot of them did... so i wouldnt doubt the ps3 will either
The only problems I remember the PS2 having, was that it wouldn't play the PS1 games with the blue bottoms.

I think there were three "different" versions of the PS2 when it first came out. But yeah, a few of them wouldn't read the blue ps1 discs, the other set of ps2's would have disc read error on them all the time. But it was soemthing sony took care of quickly, and offered an exchange if your unit was one of those first makes.
I just wanna buy up some PS3s and make some money off of them. It'll be a good year or so, after the initial release before it see's its primse. (ps3)

Hardly.
If Sony had the capability of putting 4 or 5 million units on the US market by Thanksgiving, they would in a heartbeat. It isn't like they will be seeing any extra profit from those that buy the limited suppy and then sell them on eBay.

Seems like you are unfamiliar with the law of supply and demand. You are just deluded if you think that this is anything else but a marketing ploy to drive demand through the roof.

Higher demand equals higher prices when an item isn't price-fixed. If you think stores are going to charge more for a PS3 just because Sony is only releasing 400K units to the US market, you're sorely mistaken.
Sony has announced their pricing for the units. The only additional profit will be seen by those who re-sell their systems.
When those 400K units hit the market, they will sell for the previously published pricing.
There is a big difference between designing a totally new platform (the original Playstation for example) and trying to shoehorn old games into a new console. IMO Sony has really painted themselves into a corner with all the hype they've spread over the last year. Microsoft's release of the XBox360 really forced Sony's hand.
Don't be surprised if over half of the original 400K units end up having some sort of warranty work done on them. Of course, we'll never know because Sony will certainly not release such information. Thanks to the wonderful WWW, consumers will be able to make informed decisions thanks to the sharing of information and experiences.
As I said, if Sony could put 4 or 5 million PS3's on the market by the middle of December, they would in a heartbeat.
How long have they been hyping the PS3? I can remember hearing and reading blurbs about the coming super-console as early as the fourth quarter of 2004/first quarter of 2005. Almost two years later and they still haven't gotten the thing on the market and now they're saying that they will have less than half a million units ready for release in the 06 Christmas season. While I'm sure that the consoles will sell like hotcakes no matter when they are released, I'm sure Sony would have loved to have been able to release at least 1.5-2.5 million units before Christmas.
I do applaud Sony for not rushing the console to the market (as MS did with the original XBox) and letting the general public be their beta testers. I am sure they will release an 80% reliable console at the beginning.
In summation, supply and demand just doesn't apply in this situation. If the PS3 were a commodity rather than a good, that might be true. But Sony wants to make sure that they price the product comparably to their competition (the XBox 360). If supply and demand did apply in situations such as these, you would see stores selling the new Elmo dolls for as much as $150 each. But they sell for $40 (not sure on the exact price) in a store and for $150 on eBay.
The only ones getting rich off of MSRP-fixed items are those who re-sell.
