It appears my dad feels the same way I do, LOL. We were watching it for something to do and I never mentioned anything about already watching it last night. About 10 minutes into the movie or so (just past the Subway part at the beginning) he said, "You want to put in Tenacious D instead?" (we bought it as well because we loved it in theatres), and he said "I just don't think it's all that funny. It seems like everything's pre-scripted to me."

I felt the same way last night and said the SAME THING to my brother (who thinks the movie is so-so). Not only is the movie not all that funny, but most of the time it seems as if the people he's offending, etc. have been talked to before the scene was shot and are just told to "act natural" so that it will appear as if he's really making them angry when really they're probably getting paid to act like that on camera.

As I said before: This movie is terrible and not to mention, it all feels fake. That's the difference in Jacka** and Jacka** 2, in which it CAN'T be acted out because they're doing painful stunts that would be impossible to "act out" without truly hurting yourself or being an idiot. There are a FEW things in the Jacka** movies that seem suspicious and make me wonder, but for the most part I KNOW it's almost all for real, and that's what makes it so funny. That's not to say that a movie MUST BE real to be funny, but in a film such as Borat, any sense of pre-scripted-ness really ruins any chance of it being even remotely humorous, because it just becomes unbelievable and not funny at all.

This movie is just like a fake, bad comedy that is overrated just because it is controversial. It tries so hard to be funny by playing on stereotypes and such, but it fails so miserably. I've laughed more at homemade clips on the internet.

Back to watching Tenacious D, which is 50 times better than this movie, especially if you are a fan of the music.

If you like [censored], check out the CKY Volumes, its BAM and his crew, its what gave birth to [censored], much of the stuff on the TV show [censored] came from the CKY videos. Dico is by far the funniest person. If you like that check out the movie Haggard, its a movie written and produced by the CKY/Margera Crew. GNAR KILL is the best. And while your at it check out CKY, they are a band as well. Awesome band.

I understand that they're predetermined stunts, but they involve real pain, agony, and stupidness while Borat just involves stupidness .. but most of the "civilians/citizens" involved seem to be acting as if they've been told before they started filming. Therefore, the controversy is REAL but the reactions are FAKE. Now I may be wrong, but this is just what I think after watching the film .. something feels "set up" about the entire thing. If they were real people that were bothered on the streets without being told that it was for a movie or even being told how to act, it'd be much more hilarious. Again, I could be wrong and it MIGHT be their true reactions, but it doesn't seem to be the case for me.

my cousin goes to south carolina and knew the college guys in the RV part of the movie through their frat...they said the video was all shot without knowledge that he was spoofing on them but then they took those 3 guys out later and got them drunk so they would sign the contract saying they could use that part of the film with them in it...the boys actually tried filing a lawsuit against the filmmakers

so no...it wasn't prescripted (at least i can say that part wasn't for sure)

I havent seen the movie yet, and probably wont now because I really dont care much for comedy thats just stupid, but I heard there's a part about a man in a bathroom and he was in the process of filing a lawsuit against them because he had no idea it was being filmed.

LOL, wow another lawsuit ..

Of course these people won't be able to do anything because the precious filmmakers somehow have more rights than they do. [img]/LDPforum/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wall.gif[/img] I myself was wondering how many lawsuits there would be if the people were truly filmed without wanting to be, and I guess these two posts show that lawsuits were indeed brought into the picture. It's crazy how things work. Of course, this isn't just the case for this movie either, but there were also some "edgy" parts in the Jacka** movie that involved filming people in public .. I wonder if there were lawsuits filed against them as well? Those probably had no effect either.

yeah that was on the news when the movie came out. All these people claiming this and that.
But it simply comes down to this, oh crap we made a fool of eachother and now our parents, family, friends are going to see, so we gotta make up a law suit to justify that we really didn't want this to be aired.. blah blah..

I just graduated from USC, and he is right- parts at least are not prescripted. A buddy of mine is the guy Aphrodite mentioned who was filmed unknowingly in the bathroom (it didn't make the movie, but made a Comedy central special and youtube).

Basically: The friend who was insulted was told before
entering one of the nicest restaurants in Columbia, SC that a documentary on SC tourism was being shot inside. Borat posed as one of the bathroom attendants and the guy was embarrased on film in the bathroom by Borat. Basically Borat stared at him while he used the urinal, and said something rude about his anatomy. Luckily for him he is a very nice guy and not homophobic so Borat didn't get the reaction he wanted and the scene didn't make the finished movie. Unfortunately this guy isn't as cool about it as some guys would be, and is suing. He brought the lawsuit in December, and I believe it was brought to make sure he didn't make the deleted scenes part of the DVD.
