Ticks

are ticks just really bad this year or is it just where i live...so far i have taken off at least 10 from my basset hound and my brother usually has 4 on him after weed eating...whats it like in your neck of the woods???

We had an unusually warm early spring, winter wasn't terribly cold either. There weren't enough freezes to kill off some of the tick population before breeding season began. Fleas will be bad this year too.

This would be a very good year to make sure your dogs/cats are on some kind of preventative, like K9 Advantix (one with a good repellent, not just a flea/tick killer).
Will save you and the critters a lot of grief.

Mixing a bit of minced garlic in there food seems to work as well

Garlic is a food that dogs shouldn't eat.

Speaking of ticks, I was out helping my dad build a little toolshed this weekend and I saw one crawling up my pants. Luckily I smashed the little guy with a hammer before he could make it to my noggin, but yeah I have a feeling ticks are going to be all over the place around this time & later this year.

This is the first time I've heard of ticks this year. I usually just use a flea collar on my dog and it works fine. We haven't had any problems with either ticks or fleas since we got him 3 years ago. Of course he's a "town dog" and doesn't run around in the woods. That could have something to do with it also.
