Just wondering has anyone ever seen this site before? Up until about 3 weeks ago I had never seen it. You can type in your zip code and it gives your local news and a local forum. This place is absolutely insane and I don't see how people get away with it.

There are countless threads on there not only in Norton but all around the county with nothing but boldface lies, slander, etc. How does this site get away with that. I could just get on there and anonomously post that Guy A is sleeping around with Girl A, B, and C and people take it as gospel.

In a lot of situations, especially if not true, can ruin a persons professional and personal life. I'm just wondering how in the world this site can allow such nonsense to go on. Does this place not have a moderator or owner who has to be accountable for things posted on there?????

Any thoughts, answers, opinions?????

Yeah, it's a wide-open bulletin board type deal. Instead of moderated threads like we have here, you have pinned up messages that are never checked in any way.

As crazy as this place has been in the past (before moderation tools were given back to the mods), in comparison--at least what we have here is more of an organized meeting place as opposed to the bulletin board at the grocery store where anyone can post anything for public viewing.

It's e-gossip is what that place is. At least here it's a little more under control.

Oh most definitely..... This is like a prison compared to that place. Some of the things I have read on there is flat out ridiculous. Some have been about very, very good friends in which I know none of it is true. It cause him some serious stress about what was being posted on there.

It's amazing what some will say behind a computer. At least most people on here have met me and at least know who I am. I am not going to say anything on here that I wouldn't say to someone face to face.

So is there any type of legal action that one could take with that site if something got real out of control and cost a man/woman their career, their dignity, their personal lives, etc, etc, etc. I haven't seen anything to that extent but some have definitely pushed the envelope.

Yeah, I agree, I brought this up a couple of months ago. There is a thread inthe BSG site about my x-son in laws and brother, most all of it is true, but the part I didn't agree with was when some idiot brought in my grand daughter's name.

yeah I cannot believe some of the shit that is spewed on there. They bring up people's names and will say anything they want, accusing them of doing drugs, being bad parents, all kinds of stuff.

If I was a person mentioned on there, I would go apeshit on Topix to take it down. Its ridiculous to read some of the stuff those gossip queens say without any facts or evidence.

I've been there just a couple times after doing some Google searches about football teams, and I've since avoided it at all costs. Nothing good will come from that website. It's nothing more than a site for others to slander the names of good people and tell lies about one another, engage in juvenile arguments, and so forth. The worst part about it is that 95% of the posters do so anonymously, and will never have the guts to put themselves forward and show or tell who they really are. It is indeed "just the Internet," but as anyone knows in our society today, the Internet can be incredibly harmful to individuals in many ways. In summary, I just don't agree with the direction of the site at all, and I think it's in very bad taste.
