For the sake of the country-QUIT

At 12 months and counting, the recession is longer than the 10-month average length of recessions since World War II. The record for the longest recession in the postwar period is 16 months, which was reached in the 1973-75 and 1981-82 downturns. The current recession might end up matching that or setting a record in terms of duration, analysts say.

The 1981-82 recession was the worst in terms of unemployment since the Great Depression. The jobless rate rose as high as 10.8 percent in late 1982, just as the recession ended, before inching down.

Given the current woes, the jobless rate could rise as high as 8.5 percent by the end of next year, some analysts predict. Projections, however, have to be taken with a grain of salt because of all the uncertainties plaguing the economy. Still, the unemployment rate often peaks after a recession has ended. That's because companies are reluctant to ramp up hiring until they feel certain the recovery has staying power.
Unemployment rate would have moved even higher if not for the exodus of 422,000 people (totals almost a million workers, 533,000 unemployed) from the work force. Economists thought many of those people probably abandoned their job searches out of sheer frustration. In November 2007, the jobless rate was at 4.7 percent

Most job losses since 1974....you think it is time for a change of SOME kind. And we have to pay this fool, Bush, a pension. We should kill him off like he has the economy.

Another Bush news flash

updated 24 minutes ago
WASHINGTON - President George W. Bush said Friday that the fight in Iraq has been longer and more costly than expected, but he defended the U.S.-led invasion, saying the world could not risk leaving Saddam Hussein's power unchecked.

Bush claimed some progress for his Middle East policies and outlined his view of what President-elect Barack Obama will inherit there. Bush said state-sponsored terrorism continues to destabilize the region, people still live under oppression, political and economic reforms are advancing "in fits and starts," and Iran's uranium enrichment remains a threat to peace.

The president said that while it is true that Saddam was not connected to the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks against the U.S., the decision to oust him cannot be viewed in isolation.

DUH... can anyone tell me how long Saddam has been dead, and the US is still in that sinkhole?

Here is what the job market is doing to the troops-

updated 5:48 p.m. ET, Tues., Dec. 2, 2008
FORT RILEY, Kan. - Sgt. Ryan Nyhus spent 14 months patrolling the deadly streets of Baghdad, where five members of his platoon were shot and one died. As bad as that was, he would rather go back there than take his chances in this brutal job market.

Nyhus re-enlisted last Wednesday and in so doing joined the growing ranks of those choosing to stay in the U.S. military because of the bleak economy.

"In the Army, you're always guaranteed a steady paycheck and a job," said the 21-year-old Nyhus. "Deploying's something that's going to happen. That's a fact of life in the Army "? a fact of life in the infantry."

Too bad the economy is dead, or some might be able to quit after their time was up.

someone might have a brain...look what is on the board as soon as GB is gone

updated 7:20 p.m. ET, Tues., Dec. 2, 2008
WASHINGTON - Defense Secretary Robert Gates signaled a willingness Tuesday to forge ahead with two key priorities for the incoming Obama administration: accelerating the U.S. withdrawal from Iraq and shutting down the Guantanamo Bay detention center.

As the only Republican Cabinet member asked to stay on by President-elect Barack Obama, Gates told reporters that military commanders are looking at ways to more quickly pull troops out of Iraq in light of the 16-month timetable that was a centerpiece of the Democrat's campaign.
