    Question

    Okay, I have a question;
what is the Christian response to the story of Horus?

Horus, as a story, is basically the same story of Jesus in Christianity.

Virgin birth, the son of the Osiris(the most powerful Egyptian God), Horus' mother was Isis-Meri, ), Foster family was of royal standing,, birth heralded by a star, mother told about the child by angels, etc..

Now what other historical figure's biography reads EXACTLY like that?

The story of Horus dates back to ancient Egypt, quite a bit before the Christian Jesus.

I have read up on this, the Christian claim is the Egyptian facts are not to believed because of credibility issues. But looking at it without bias, doesn't the Bible have credibility issues? So save that excuse.

What I posted is what I gathered from some research.

    this is a good site to compare their stories;
Jesus' and Horus' life events, etc.

Horus' mother was not a virgin she was married to Osiris. Horus' birth was not announced by a star in the east neither. Horus was not baptized, theiur is no announcement of a baptizer in the story of Horus.

Horus was not transfigured of the Mount. He was not crucified the story says he was in pieces and thrown in the water and was fished out by a crocidile.lol. According to Egyptian mythology, this is just myhtology.

The truth is that the parallels between Horus and Jesus were largely made up by Gerald Massey.

Horus' birth WAS a divine birth, and was announced by a star in the east.

Do you know there are about 10 different mythological stories that sound exactly like the one you believe about Jesus Christ?
And ALL of them came before the 'birth of Christ'.

The truth is that there are parallels between Jesus and many many mythological figures. Attis from ancient Greece, Krishna from India, Dionysus from Greece, Mithra from Persia, all share the same basic story as Christ. Born of a virgin, dead for 3 days then resurrected.
    How do you explain that?

Jesus was the last mythological figure in chronological order. How can anyone with a brain say the story of Jesus is true, yet disregard the rest of the myths?
The Bible was written by men, so please do not post and just say the Bible says so.
There is no facts in that, there is no proof.

If Jesus was alive in the time period he was supposedly living, why is their no account from any historian of the time? There is no mention of a Jesus in any writings, there is a mention of Christ, but Christ does not mean Jesus,Christ is a title.
The writings you will cite have been PROVEN to be forgery for hundreds of years.

I am trying to HELP you. I want you to be able to look at things objectively and realize that although you may fully believe everything, have great amounts of faith, the way the Christian right has influence in this country is ridiculous. You can believe in whatever crazy story you want, but please keep it out of the running of this country. I go nuts when I hear a politician use religious basis for legislation. Or when a church has so much influence over the country that is full of people with different beliefs.

I want you to realize that although you believe, other people who look at the facts, look objectively, and find that your beliefs are plagiarized, and have no factual basis whatsoever. And since that is true, letting all these people be forced to function under a strict moral code set forth by lies and plagiarism, goes against everything that is right.

    Re: Question

There are two others I've really looked at/studied, which are very similar, yet all before Jesus.

Mithra of Persia - was worshiped around 1500 BC.

--Mithra was born of a virgin on December 25 in a cave, and his birth was attended by shepherds bearing gifts.
--He was considered a great traveling teacher and master.
--He had 12 companions or disciples.
    --Mithra?s followers were promised immortality.
    --He performed miracles.
--As the ?great bull of the Sun,? Mithra sacrificed himself for world peace.
--He was buried in atomb and after three days rose again.
--His resurrection was celebrated every year.
--He was called ?the Good Shepherd? and identified with both the Lamb and the Lion.
--He was considered the ?Way, the Truth and the Light,? and the ?Logos,? [Word] ?Redeemer,? ?Savior? and ?Messiah.?
--His sacred day was Sunday, the ?Lord?s Day,? hundreds of years before the appearance of Christ.
--Mithra had his principal festival on what was later to become Easter.
--His religion had a eucharist or ?Lord?s Supper,? at which Mithra said, ?He who shall nto eat of my body nor drink of my blood so that he may be one with me and I with him, shall not be saved.?
--?His annual sacrifice is the Passover of the Magi, a symbolical atonement of pledge of moral and physical regeneration.?

And Krishna, which was even before Horus I think....

Krishna of India - 3228 BC.

--Krishna was born of the Virgin Devaki (?Divine One?) on December 25.
--His earthly father was a carpenter, who was off in the city paying tax while Krishna was born.
--His birth was signaled by a star in the east and attended by angels and shepherds, at which time he was presented with spices.
--The heavenly hosts danced and sang at his birth.
--He was persecuted by a tyrant who ordered the slaughter of thousands of infants.
--Krishna was anointed on the head with oil by a woman whom he healed.
--He is depicted as having his foot on the head of a serpent.
--He worked miracles and wonders, raising the dead and healing lepers, the deaf and the blind.
--Krishna used parables to teach the people about charity and love, and he ?lived poor and he loved the poor.?
--He castigated the clergy, charging them with ?ambition and hypocrisy . . . Tradition says he fell victim to their vengeance.?
--Krishna?s ?beloved disciple? was Arjuina or Ar-jouan (Jouhn).
--He was transfigured in front of his disciples.
--He gave his disciples the ability to work miracles.
--His path was ?strewn with branches.?
--In some traditions he died on a tree or was crucified between two thieves.
--Krishna was killed around the age of 30, and the sun darkened at his death.
--He rose from the dead and ascended to heaven ?in the sight of all men.?
--He was depicted on a cross with nail-holes in his feet, as well as having a heart emblem on his clothing.
--Krishna is the ?lion of the tribe of Saki.?
--He was called the ?Shepherd of God? and considered the ?Redeemer,? ?Firstborn,? ?Sin-Bearer,? ?Liberator,? ?Universal Word.?
--He was deemed the ?Son of God? and ?our Lord and Savior,? who came to earth to die for man?s salvation.
--He was the second person of the Trinity.

Christians really have no answer for them.

Interesting since a calander that could be be used say it was that day did not exist before 65 BC

It never said it did, calenders did exist before then, it was just estimated to be that day like Christians did with Jesus and Dec. 25th...he was probably born in June.

    Re: Question

The same thing could arguably be said about the writings you refer to in reference to Horas. Some of those writings have been proven to be speculative to say the least and down out fables in others. Christians believe the Bible through faith, because that is what we have. It is what makes christians strive to do good. Faith and the belief in that faith is what we long for. Not someone telling us that God isn't real or that Christ never existed, but it is faith that we believe. It isn't something we are readily able to touch, or even feel, but it is a belief in that our faith in the promise of an everlasting life if we accept Him as Saviour. You can call it a "character flaw" if you wish, but I prefer to call it a strength. I could quote you any number of verses in the Bible, but I won't because you have refused to believe in it.

The truth is biggin, true christians don't have to find proof in Christ or God's existence we all believe in His existence through our faith.

    Re: Question

Below you will find the very well researched and very detailed response to all those claims. What you will find documented here are answers to every possible comparison as well as the information that debunks many if not all of these claims.

This page is one of the few that I find extremely reliable and so thoroughly well researched and documented that it's hard to ever find a mistake.

Still roofing my house, not enough time to respond in my own words.

    Re: Question

There are four pages in total on the subject at the link I provided. Every connection is discussed and every historical angle addressed.

Sorry I can't try to do it myself right now though.
