I still dont understand how kicking the ball has anything to do with the arrow, that doesn't justify a jump ball.

Re: I Got One For You For-Basketball-Change of Possession

Whew...lets try this again.....there is a tie up........jump ball is called....arrow is pointed to Team A... the ball is awarded to Team A....Team A attempts to throw the ball in....Team B kicks the ball.......it is a violation....possesion arrow change is now no longer in affect because of the violation.....Team A still maintains possesion arrow.
Now... if a five seconds was called.....possesion arrow still does not change.. ball is awarded to Team B on the violation but Team A still maintains possession arrow.
The ball has to be touched LEGALLY INBOUNDS before the possesion arrow is changed.

File a grievance..sign a petition....get the rule changed...whatever happens we officials will be there to enforce those rules however dumb or smart you think they might be.

Re: I Got One For You For-Basketball-Change of Possession

At least I have enough sense to know that when a ball is thrown out of bounds the other team cant run the baseline on the next throw in. Cant say the same for the officials at PV/Honaker last night. I'll give them credit though after conferencing they got it right. Do you honestly think thats a good rule? That a team can keep the arrow after they blow their possession by throwing it out of bounds or getting a five second call?

Heres a question for you, what is a foul? If team A is dribbling the down the floor and a player from team B has his/her hands on team b while they are dribbling is that a foul?

Re: I Got One For You For-Basketball-Change of Possession

On a spot throwin, Out of bounds, the thrower can move three feet to the sides and go up and down as deep as he wants.
Now to answer your other question...now granted some refs are different..some warn, some are strictly by the book which to me, just screws up the game sometimes.
By the book, it is.....but during the captains talk, I like to tell them to move their feet and keep their hands and forearms down...and during the game if a kid puts his hands out to check a dribbler.. I will warn him..."put your hands down!" if he keeps on, I blow the whistle.
Now if the defensive player caused the offensive guy to change his direction because of the hand check, yes, I blow the whistle because the defender got the advantage. I give every opportunity to play ball by warning but sometimes you got to blow that whistle.
Something else....if a dribbler is bigger, stronger, and faster than the defender and he is approaching or going in for a lay-up..outside the paint..the defender hand checks him (or rides him), I usually will not call that. I just let the offensive guy make the lay up. If you blow the whistle outside as he is making the approach to the goal, you have given the defender the edge by blowing the whistle and stoping a potential two points. It is better to let the offensive man have the points than let them have the ball out of bounds. If he is riding him as he is going up...blow the whistle because it is a dangerous situation.
That is how I would call that situation.

He didn't say the refs are dumb, he said the rule's dumb.

Now me, I say the refs are dumb. Wanna fight about it?

So, you will "be there to enforce the rules", but only if they make sense to you in the given situation. Interesting. Kind of knocks you off that high & mighty refs pedestal you were balancing on.

If I were a coach, I'd rather you call it and let my kid go to the line and hit his free throws, and get the team fouls up on my opponent and the personal fouls up on the defender. I'll take my chances on scoring off the inbounds, you just have to call it as it is. I'd much rather get the ball back or hit free throws while the opponent's foul total goes up than 2 points off a layup and a no-call.

They threw the ball to another man out of bounds, which is not allowed.
