4.0 out of 5 stars Client app is secret sauce, comp with Alfa AWUS036NHR, October 21, 2012

This review is from: EnGenius Network Device EUB9603H USB Adapter 150Mbps 600mW 802.11b/g/n Retail (Personal Computers)
The 9603H uses the Realtek 8188S(U?) chip; Alfa uses the 8188RU high power chip. Both client apps have a Realtek code base. The Engenius registers as an Engenius device; the Alfa as a Realtek device. Comparisons were made with an Asus RT-AC66U AP/router, firmware 3.0.0.4.246 (latest). Signal was through two floors, near or at "100%", link speed reported 72mb/s with both adapters without channel bonding. Throughput measured with LAN Speedtest Lite, v1.2. Identical 5dB omni "rubber duck" antenna swapped between adapters.
Engenius throughput without client program installed: 3-18 mb/s
Engenius throughput with client installed: 35-45 mb/s
Alfa throughput with or without client: 5-20mb/s, frequently slower than "g" speeds.
The Alfa client app appears to be a simple branded copy of the Realtek app. It does not recognize the Engenius adapter. Since Alfa uses the higher end chip, the implication is that the Engenius client program loads something into the firmware that makes a positive difference.
Paradox: The Alfa adapter uses the more expensive high power Realtek chip, but results are significantly inferior, at least under these conditions:
1. Strong signal.
2. Two floor separation.
3. Asus RT-AC66U router, with firmware 3.0.0.4.246.
4. House with aluminum siding.
The Alfa/Realtek and Engenius clients conflict, and cannot be simultaneously installed. The drivers do not conflict, but as previously noted, the Engenius client seems to provide a beneficial code tweak. The install packages do not offer to install the drivers without the clients. To run both adapters on one machine, first install the entire Engenius package. Then run the Alfa install, use "system restore" to remove it, then manually install the Alfa driver left over by the Alfa install program in the folder "036NHR_WindowsDriver_0104".
Caveat:
The RT-AC66U, a beam-forming router, is on the cutting edge, with significant maturity problems. It works strikingly well with the Intel and Broadcom adapters in laptops. In combination with these adapters, the performance is not outstanding. Your results may be significantly better or worse.

LOS ANGELES (KABC) --
Gas prices jumped 15 cents overnight, according to AAA, marking the largest daily increase since October 2012.
In the Los Angeles-Long Beach area, the average price for regular unleaded on Friday was $3.40. On Thursday, it was $3.25. Last week, it was $2.94, and it was $2.47 a month ago.
Things aren't much better in the Inland Empire. In San Bernardino, it was $4.29 at the 76 gas station on Del Rosa -- more than $1 over the Inland Empire average of $3.18 currently. That's up from 2.86 a week ago.
"It's just not fair," Jared New of Burbank.
Some experts attribute the rise to the explosion at the Exxon Mobil refinery in Torrance on Feb. 18.
"The Torrance refinery incident of last week is clearly a major cause of this jump that is giving Southern California drivers higher fuel bills than even Wailuku, Maui, traditionally the most expensive place in the country to buy gas," said Jeffrey Spring, the corporate communications manager of the Automobile Club of Southern California.
The situation underscores the frustrating complexity of the gasoline market in California, where state environmental regulations mandate a specialized blend of fuel that isn't used anywhere else in the U.S.
Because of that, California is economically isolated and can't easily or quickly purchase fuel from outside the state in a crisis.
The Exxon Mobil unit where the explosion happened was critical to producing the California-grade gasoline. At the time, another Tesoro oil refinery in Martinez, in Northern California, wasn't producing oil due to labor unrest.
The two facilities combined make up 17 percent of the state's crude oil processing capacity, said Gordon Schremp, a senior fuels specialist with the California Energy Commission.
The 28-day streak of increases is the longest since a 30-day streak from Jan. 25-Feb. 23, 2013.

Eighteen months ago, I wrote about how a hydra-headed protest movement against Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s agenda of privatization, austerity, and authoritarian governance was changing the face of politics in the Windy City. Now, it’s close to achieving a miracle: ending Rahm Emanuel’s political career once and for all.
In the first round of Chicago’s mayoral election on February 24th, Rahm Emanuel came a shocking five points shy of the 50 percent he needed to win reelection outright-- performing three points shy of the final pre-election polls. Chicagoans, it seems have had it up to here with Rahm’s crusade to build a new, more durable Chicago machine-- this one, though, headquartered in places like Wall Street (where Emanuel worked as an investment banker), Abu Dhabi (the oil kingdom whose “sovereign wealth fund” owns a third of Chicago’s parking meter concession), and Philadelphia (home of the services corporation Aramark, which after being awarded the janitorial franchise left Chicago’s public schools crawling with vermin, and responded by firing a quarter of their workforce.)
It happened despite a Karl Rove-style campaign funded by $30 million in donations from corporate interests in return for favors from the city. It was a people-powered miracle. But we’re only halfway there.

Allan S coin rocker • 16 days ago I joined to avoid summer school, flunked english. Convinced the parents to sign the consent forms, (I was 17). An Officer heard me bragging on how I dodged summer school and forced me to write my GED. Sooooo, long story short, I had to do all my military training AND summer school. Best thing anybody ever did to me and to my shame I cannot remember that Officers name.

"Hackers then attacked Beck's Wikipedia page and rewrote his biography to accuse him of "stealing... Best Album of the Year... from Beyonce at the 2015 Grammy Awards". Kanye probably hired the hackers too attack Beck and then had them attacks wikipedia too throw off suspicion.
