AVALON, Calif. (KABC) --
Four earthquakes jolted different parts of Southern California overnight.

The first two small quakes, magnitudes 1.8 and 2.5, were reported in Fountain Valley shortly after midnight. The other two shook Avalon within the same hour.

The U.S. Geological Survey says the strongest quake was a magnitude 4.1 centered 42 miles south-southwest of Avalon around 12:42 a.m. Two minutes earlier, a small 3.5 quake rumbled the same area.

The earthquakes in Fountain Valley were significantly smaller, but at least one viewer in Huntington Beach reported that one of the quakes felt and sounded like an explosion.

There were no reports of damage or injuries.

I understand why parents and loved ones of those who have been taken hostage, beg and plead for mercy, but I believe this is wrong thinking. Of course, what else can one do under these circumstances but to hope for the best. These savages that we see daily in our news, those of ISIS or ISIL, or whatever the acronym of the day is, have no mercy. They care not about grieving mothers and fathers; of loved ones of those they destroy. They are about terror for terrors sake. I see our women wearing shawls and parents converting to Islam and still their loved ones are murdered. The relatives play into the very hands of the monsters they beg to; of whom they attempt to empathize and sympathize with to gain the release of their loved one. It is all for naught.

My heart is with his friends and family. These evil creatures must be beaten, as they represent no religion and no tribe ... they simply represent evil desires for those who only seek economic and social dominance for their narrow and dimmed lens of life. It is a lens that has been rejected by all of major religions, including mainstream Islam, and all of secular societies. They make themselves less acceptable to potential recruits with each horrific act against humanity, and will lose their battle.
