    Re: pictures

Karolina Obrycka finally received justice when Cook County Circuit court convicted Chicago police officer, Anthony Abbate for beating a female bartender. Most readers will remember the infamous incident where Abbate was captured on the videotape while mercilessly kicking and punching Obrycka in 2007. At that point of time Abbate was off duty and Obrycka was a bartender at a Northwest Side tavern. The case assumed such popularity because the video which had captured all the action was widely circulated amongst the masses.

During the case proceedings the Cook County Circuit Judge, John J. Fleming, refused to recognize Abbate’s claims that he had acted in “self-defense.” Fleming went on to say that Obrycka had “tried to stop him, and she used reasonable force…His own momentum, with a little help from Karolina Obrycka, caused the fall. But that did not justify his actions afterward, which were directly out of proportion.” The judge’s comment is quite understandable considering the fact that Obrycka is just 5 foot 3 and 115 pounds while Abbate stands tall at 6 foot 1 and weighs 250 pounds. Moreover, Abbate had gone behind the bar without any permission.

The video was continuously played during the court proceedings to bring light to the actual situation. The tape shows how Abbate in a drunken state refused to go out from the bar when Obrycka asks him to leave. Then Obrycka pushed him and he fell, crashing back into the bar. Soon Abbate slammed Obrycka against the bar and then took full swings at her head. Abbate confessed that he did not feel any threat from Obrycka but he beat her up and “tossed her like a garbage can.”

    Re: pictures

Women allegedly forced into prostitution to pay off their drug debts will not face criminal charges, federal prosecutors announced Friday, the same day that documents charging alleged pimp Jeremy Mack with human trafficking were unsealed.

?The victims in this case are just that ? victims of crime and will be treated accordingly,? Mike Tobin, spokesman for U.S. Attorney for Northern Ohio Steven Dettelbach, said in a statement. ?They will not face criminal charges. Instead, we have been working and will continue to work to get them the help and services they need.?

Mack, 37, and Ashley Onysko, 23, were arrested on local charges when Elyria police raided a Tattersal Court house from which the pair was allegedly running their online prostitution ring. Federal human trafficking charges against Onysko were unsealed Thursday.

Mack, who has a lengthy criminal record, allegedly lured young women, including a 16-year-old girl, into his prostitution business by selling them heroin and cocaine and then when they couldn?t pay offering to trade sex for drugs.

Ultimately, the women?s drug debts became too much for them to pay and Mack used violence and intimidation to hold them at his house, forcing them to go to area hotels to have sexual relations with as many as 10 clients in a day, FBI Special Agent Kelly Liberti wrote in an affidavit filed in U.S. District Court.

Mack often was armed with a gun and carried a stun gun, the affidavit said.

Tobin wrote that it?s not uncommon for victims of human trafficking to have legal issues such as drug abuse. Those who target women for exploitation often use those vulnerabilities to control their victims, he wrote.

?When anyone is forced, through threats or coercion, to have sex against their will, it?s not prostitution,? Tobin wrote. ?It?s rape, plain and simple.?

Onysko allegedly managed the women for Mack, posting photos of them on websites such as Backpage.com and Craigslist.com advertising their ?escort services,? which cost $120 for 30 minutes or $220 for a full hour.

Onysko also tracked the money the prostitutes were earning, how long they spent with clients and kept a list of client names and appointments, Liberti wrote.

Tobin said he couldn?t say whether the men who hired the prostitutes controlled by Mack and Onysko will be charged in connection with the case, which remains under investigation.

The women told investigators that they gave any money they made to Mack, who applied it toward their drug debt. Because the women weren?t allowed to have any money, Mack provided them with clothes, makeup, condoms, cigarettes and drugs.

Onysko, who allegedly got a 30 percent cut of the money made by the prostitution business, told investigators that she carried heroin with her to give to the women before they met with clients so they would be able to perform.

Mindi Kuebler of the Human Trafficking Collaborative of Lorain County said that the women are receiving not only substance abuse treatment, but mental health counseling and other services to help them recover from their ordeal.

?Human trafficking, which we?re talking about here, is modern-day slavery,? Kuebler said.

Both Mack and Onysko are in federal custody and will appear in court next week for hearings on whether they should remain incarcerated while the case moves through the justice system.

    Re: pictures

The three women who were allegedly kidnapped and held in a house of horrors in Cleveland, Ohio have gone through sheer hell for the past decade. Sources say the women suffered numerous pregnancies and miscarriages throughout their captivity -- but one woman, Amanda Berry, managed to give birth to a little girl, Jocelyn, who is now 6-years-old and rescued along with her mom and the other two women. One of the women, Michelle Knight, suffered unspeakable tragedy even before this horrific turn of events. Reports say that a year before she was kidnapped, Michelle had given birth to a little boy. And she reportedly became pregnant after being gang-raped by three boys.

According to Michelle's great-aunt, Deborah Knight, Michelle was raped by three classmates in junior high and gave birth to a son, Joey, a year before her abduction. The boy was subsequently placed in foster care and it was these events that led police to conclude that Michelle had become angry at circumstances and ran away of her own accord. As a result, she was never searched for in a way that the other two women, Amanda Berry and Gina DeJesus, were.

If reports are correct, Michelle, who is now 32, would have been gang-raped at about 18 years old, so it's unclear how she was in junior high school at the time, as reports state.

If all of this is true, it's unbelievable the amount of trauma this one woman has been through. Not only was she gang-raped, gave birth, had that child taken away, and then was kidnapped, but she reportedly has hearing loss and facial trauma from her years of abuse allegedly at the hands of captor Ariel Castro. One horrific detail from her years of hell is that Michelle was forced to be a midwife at the birth of Amanda Berry's daughter and threatened with death by Castro if the baby didn't survive.

Michelle's brother, Freddie, has visited Michelle in the hospital and said she asked him for a hug. "She was so freaking happy. I gave her a hug, but I couldn’t give her a bear hug because of all the things that happened to her," Freddie told the New York Daily News. "She was just so happy to see me."

In yet another hint into the devastating dynamics that Michelle endured even before her capture, brother Freddie says he didn't even know that his sister had been missing since he's been estranged from his family since the age of 14. While the other victims have gone home to their families, Michelle remains in the hospital and has asked for no more visitors.

But hopefully this poor woman will have a happy ending. Freddie says she is eager to reunite with her son, who is now 13. Says Freddie: "She wants to start a new life, have the whole family there." Perhaps, in some strange, horrific way, this tragedy will mean getting to know her son in a way she wouldn't have otherwise.

It's going to take an enormous amount of strength for Michelle to overcome what life has thrown at her so far -- but this woman has strength. Look at all she's survived so far. She deserves nothing but happiness from here on.

Perhaps the greatest lesson I've learned so far is to resist the temptation to play them too loudly.
When it comes to selecting the right loudness level for each record, here's the Valencia rule:
If it seems, from the noise of lowering the stylus into the groove, that the volume level is just right,
it is in fact just a little too loud; back it off a few degrees and it'll be just right.
And if you have friends over whom you wish to try and impress, don't.
(Do have your friends over; just don't make your Altecs do tricks for them.)
Bear in mind that, when you play your music system at unrealistically high levels,
women in particular will think you're an imbecile.
