The U.S. Geological Survey reports that a magnitude 3.8 earthquake struck about 2:20 a.m. 3 miles northeast of Harrah, a city of about 5,000 people about 20 miles east of Oklahoma City. That was followed nearly two hours later by a magnitude 3.9 temblor 5 miles northeast of the community.

The quakes were strong enough to knock merchandise off the shelves at an Ace Hardware store along with tiles from the ceiling. Store manager Tony Landrith said the falling paint, cleaner and other items along with the tiles caused the security alarm to go off and the police to respond.

When Landrith arrived at the store after the alarm company called him, he and the police discovered "a little bit of everything on every aisle" had been knocked off, he said.

Employees worked throughout the morning and afternoon to clean up. The store opened two hours late, he said.

Earl Burson, Harrah's city manager, said glass windows were shattered at buildings on the city's main street, Church Avenue, and the police department sustained cracks in the wall.

"I'm surprised we had as a little damage as we do," he said. No injuries were reported.

Like Landrith, Burson was woken up by a call after the alarm went off at City Hall after the first quake. After the second quake, alarms started going off throughout the community.

The USGS also reported that a third earthquake struck in north-central Oklahoma Tuesday morning. The magnitude 3.0 earthquake was 5 miles south of Medford at 5 a.m.

Earlier this week, the USGS reported seven small earthquakes shaking 15 to 30 miles northeast of Oklahoma City in a span of 14 hours.

The temblors are part of an increase in earthquakes across Oklahoma, Texas and Kansas that some scientists say could be connected to the oil and gas drilling method known as hydraulic fracturing, and especially the wells in which the industry disposes of its wastewater.

Searches of the home, office and vehicle of Jeffrey Cohen turned up extensive evidence of the alleged plot and a cache of weapons, according to the documents filed in U.S. District Court in Baltimore.

Federal prosecutors at the U.S. Attorney's office said on Tuesday they were investigating the findings from the searches.

Cohen has not been charged in connection with the latest allegations.

Cohen, 39, former president of the Indemnity Insurance Corp, was arrested in June and charged with lying to Delaware insurance regulators.

In the searches, federal agents found a digital recorder that Cohen allegedly used to record what agents believe was a reconnaissance mission to the home of a judge presiding over the liquidation of Cohen's business and another person identified in the court documents only as an elected official.

"Society needs to look at the fact that killing isn't wrong in certain circumstances, and killing culls the weak," Cohen said in the recording, according to the court documents. "Killing culls the wrong so that society can have a better chance of survival without certain obstacles."

Agents also discovered weapons including a precision rifle with a scope, a shotgun, another rifle and four handguns, the documents said.

They also found an alleged target list of Maryland and Delaware government employees and searches for hostage negotiation techniques and bomb device information on his iPad, according to the documents.

Authorities said Cohen was planning to use homeless people to carry explosives in backpacks to attack his targets, according to the documents.

Cohen is being held in jail on the initial charges and was unavailable for comment. He has switched public defenders several times and is now representing himself, according to court documents.

A federal grand jury indicted Cohen last month on charges that he falsely claimed to Delaware insurance regulators that his company had $5.1 million in a bank.

His company insured more than 3,000 policyholders, mostly bars and nightclubs, across the nation.

The investigation uncovered a ring in southern Oregon that specialized in "straw" purchases of weapons, buys designed to conceal the ultimate recipient, the Grants Pass Daily Courier reported.

The man convicted in the girl's killing, Jon A. Meyer Jr., 30, was involved in such a purchase, touching off the investigation revealed Wednesday in a statement from the Jackson County sheriff's office.

Five more people are being sought. The investigation involved federal state and local agencies.

The child, Alysa Bobbitt of Shady Cove, was visiting at a Grants Pass apartment with her mother in June 2013.

Meyer was below in the living room of his apartment when the gun went off, sending a burst of bullets through the ceiling, hitting the girl and seriously wounding a woman.

In a plea bargain with prosecutors, Meyer pleaded guilty in 2013 to manslaughter and other charges and was sentenced to six years in prison.

After Meyer was sentenced, the Daily Courier reported that federal authorities were investigating the background of the rifle, which fired in an automatic mode either because of a malfunction or because it had been illegally tampered with.

The statement from investigators Wednesday said some of the guns purchased by the ring ended up at crime scenes in California. It said two murder plots were uncovered.

During the investigation, authorities seized rifles, handguns and a variety of drugs.

Other charges contained in the state and federal indictments include racketeering, attempted murder, assault and promoting prostitution.

Seth Mazzaglia gets escorted out of the courtroom as Judge Steven Houran gave his case to jurors for deliberation at Strafford County Superior Court in Dover, N.H., on Thursday, June 26, 2014.

The jury in Strafford Superior Court found Seth Mazzaglia guilty of first-degree murder in the death of 19-year-old Elizabeth "Lizzi" Marriott of Westborough, Massachusetts, in October 2012.

The key witness, 20-year-old Kathryn McDonough, was Mazzaglia's girlfriend when she lured Marriott to their apartment. She testified that Mazzaglia wanted another woman to join their sexual escapades, which included bondage and discipline.

McDonough first told investigators that Marriott died during rough sex between the two women that involved restraints. After getting immunity from prosecution, McDonough changed her story and said Mazzaglia strangled Marriott then raped her. After Marriott was dead, Mazzaglia and McDonough dumped her body in a river. It has never been found.

Mazzaglia was found guilty of one count of first-degree murder that stated he strangled Marriott "before, after or while" sexually assaulting her. He also was convicted of conspiracy to falsify evidence and conspiracy to tamper with witnesses.

Mazzaglia showed no emotion as the verdict was read. He was led from the courtroom in handcuffs.

He will be sentenced to life in prison without the chance of parole.

Marriott's father, Bob, said the family is grateful for the verdict but that even a life sentence will never soothe their grief. Marriott gave a police officer a bear hug after the verdicts were read.

"We will always miss her and we wonder what could have been," Marriott said, his voice quavering. "In fact, the trial has been torturous for us. The truth of what happened to Lizzi is horrendous. And every time it's been told, it has reinforced the despair that we feel."

Marriott said the verdict will keep a dangerous man off the streets and protect other women.

He also had harsh words for Mazzaglia's lawyers for what he called intentionally misstating his daughter's action the night she died.

"Blaming a victim who is unable to defend herself is a typical ploy used by defense teams. If you are dead, you cannot correct a mischaracterization," he said.

Mazzaglia's lawyers did not comment after the verdict.

Jurors began deliberating Thursday, after hearing 19 days of testimony. McDonough was on the stand for 10 of those days.

The trial hinged on McDonough's credibility. Mazzaglia did not testify.

McDonough initially told investigators that she killed Marriott during consensual sex but later said she made up that story because she loved Mazzaglia, thought they still had a future together and wanted to protect him.

Defense lawyers, though, painted her as an opportunistic liar who killed Marriott then changed her story when she found out she could cut a deal and get less time in prison if she pinned the crime on her ex-boyfriend.

The deal was conditioned on her testifying truthfully and juror Maria Clifford said the panel thought she did.

"The main thoughts were that she was a pathological liar most of her life and up until she took that witness stand, her life had been based upon lie after lie after lie," said Clifford, 52. "I think Mr. Mazzaglia had control over her and she was afraid of him. We just thought, 'She's on the witness stand now and she doesn't have anything left to lose,' and she came to the realization that 'I need to do the right thing.'"

Clifford said she approached the trial as if Mazzaglia was one of own family members.

"Everybody deserves a fair trial, no matter what they did," she said.

In court, McDonough testified that Mazzaglia was the sexually dominant partner in their relationship and became angry when she left for nearly two weeks at theater camp without recruiting a sex partner for him. As what she called punishment, Mazzaglia told her to lure a woman — Marriott — to the apartment on Oct. 9, 2012.

After a game of strip poker which prosecutors say Marriott willingly joined, Mazzaglia suggested she kiss McDonough. Marriott said no, saying she was in a committed relationship. Mazzaglia then asked if she would watch as he and McDonough had sex. She again said no.

Prosecutors said the domineering Mazzaglia was unaccustomed to being rejected so, as the two women watched a movie, he sneaked up behind Marriott and choked her with a rope. McDonough testified that she left the room briefly and when she returned, found Mazzaglia raping Marriott's limp body.

Mazzaglia's lawyers said McDonough, who pleaded guilty to hindering prosecution and is spending 1 1/2 to 3 years in prison, was interested in experimenting with women and initiated the sexual activity that night in the apartment she shared with Mazzaglia.

Republicans John Swallow and Mark Shurtleff are accused of establishing a pay-to-play culture in office, and of taking bribes to look the other way or offer protection when donors to their political campaigns ran into legal trouble.

"This has been a complex, nuanced, large investigation and there are multiple players in it," Salt Lake District Attorney Sim Gill said at a news conference. "We have filed what we think are appropriate charges. We could have filed more."

Both men deny any wrongdoing. They were booked into Salt Lake County jail and released by midday.

Swallow told reporters outside he would clear his name.

"I absolutely maintain my innocence. I look forward to being able to confront my accusers and to have my day in court," he said.

Shurtleff planned to hold a news conference later. Messages left for both men's attorneys were not immediately returned.

Shurtleff was Utah's attorney general for 12 years, leaving office in 2012. He hand-picked Swallow to serve as his chief deputy and then backed Swallow in the 2012 election to be his successor.

Tuesday's arrests in the Salt Lake City suburb of Sandy were carried out by the FBI and agents from Utah's Department of Public Safety. FBI agents searched both homes last month.

Shurtleff and Swallow were the subject of a 2013 investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice's Public Integrity Section.

That office declined to bring charges but FBI agents who worked on the case are working with Gill and Davis County Attorney Troy Rawlings, who pursued the investigation together.

Court papers filed in Salt Lake City's 3rd District Court charge Shurtleff with 10 felonies, including a pattern of unlawful activity, receiving or soliciting bribes, compensation/loan when prohibited, improper use of an employee's position, witness tampering, evidence tampering and obstruction of justice.

Seven of the charges are second-degree felonies and carry a punishment of up to 15 years in prison. The remaining are third-degree felonies, which are punishable by up to five years.

Swallow faces 11 felonies and two misdemeanors, court papers show, including receiving or soliciting bribes, misuse of public money, obstruction of justice and altering government records. Five of the charges he faces are second-degree felonies.

Gill said the investigation remains active and more charges could be brought.

Drilling down, just read this excerpt from Jacek Kugler, Ron Tammen and Brian Efird: “The War Presidency: Options Taken and Lost”, International Studies Association Meetings, Montreal, Canada, published February 2004, http://citation.allacademic.com/.../.../p74272-1.php:

“Specifically, a gap between the United States and Germany, the leader of Europe now and into the foreseeable future, generates frictions and dissatisfaction within the Western alliance. This dissatisfaction in turn, raises the potential of a challenge between the US and an emerging giant in Asia. Contrast this structure with the alternative that was emerging after the war in Afghanistan. A German – led EU was coordinating anti-terrorist efforts with the US. Russia, France and Japan seemed to be participating in an expanded NATO/EU/Atlantic Alliance. China was now neutral. Given this structure the potential challenge from a dissatisfied Asian power could be delayed until the end of this century.”

This model is running like clockwork [T]he model’s rate of accuracy was about 90%, and when the forecasts of the model and CIA analysts differed, the model’s forecast was correct in every case. https://www.apsanet.org/imgtest/Cont...s-Siverson.pdf

What is more the DOD knows it. I am reminding the office in DOD that is responsible for this model, and then I am going to contact the US military here in Japan. We should get things straightened out. Read me on the social media tomorrow.

    Dear Karen,

Could you post this for me please on youtube.com so it comes first? Thanks.

WS reaction: With 5-6 days running, we get some clue. We thank all those people who put forward some of their ideas. Many more must be quietly wondering what this is all about. Our take-one was not so successful. It opened maybe more questions than it could answer doubts. In short: Karen Hudes has attained quite some following and respect in laying bare the truth about corruption in highest places and she has opened the debate about the global debt facility as the hidden basis of total manipulation of global finances by a few families who own more than 40% of global wealth. That is a fact and not debatable.

I can now say that we are concerned about that but we are actually much more concerned about the ongoing march into total enslavement of humanity if and when the greater majority of people around the world will not wake up to the fact that their minds are manipulated to think the wrong things and that this world is a world upside down filled with lies and more lies. Why do politicians have to lie? Because the people do not like to hear the truth. That is also a fact and I can easily prove that. You will hate me when I tell you the true history of the gold. That is where I come in and where I came in many years ago not knowing where it would leave me in the end.

I am not mafia or UBS or any of that. I was a lucky man, at the right place at the right time, a little bit of a photographic memory, certainly easy to learn new languages besides German, English, French, Swedish, and a mind that can do several things at the same time without getting nervous. Lucky me I am a co-founder of an international broker firm in Duesseldorf, Germany, I meet the right people, and I become a favorite broker in the trading room of Swiss Bank Corporation and UBS Zuerich. We go out, I have to foot the bill, because I collect commission for every deal $25 per million traded. One night, 1982, in a top brothel outside Basel, Rene Champion and Arno Semadini of SBC Basel ask me how to spell the name Araneta. I did not know. We guessed wrong, we wrote down "Irene Aranetta Marcos". So I asked how much (for the monthly combined trading profit). "13.2, my dear, thirteen point two, the highest ever" which left me to ask "millions?" - "Billions, my dear". I will never forget how Arno said that.

I have seen those $13.2 billion many times flashing all over the media landscape as "ill-gotten", meaning stolen from the people in the Philippines and stashed away in Swiss banks. That is just not true. Irene could never get it. She did not know and certainly did not know about the wrong spelling of her name. Unconfirmed rumors have it that her husband made a compromise deal not long ago for $450M and UBS pocketed the profit which was parked in a Tallano account 885931-I in UBS Lugano. Rainer Jacobi had discovered the account long time ago and made a deal with the PCGG. He demanded 10%. They never paid him the 10% because he could not deliver. The PCGG still has it in their list as "ill-gotten Marcos wealth" and people hate Marcos for that.

That is how I came in and believe me my experience, no Filipino would like to hear the truth. For example they are proud that they have learned history about Dr. Jose P. Rizal who was Jose P. Mercado from Calamba when he went to school. In Ateneo he changed his name before he left for Madrid. Imagine, a boy from Calamba left to study in Madrid, when everybody's dream was to go to Manila. Then he studied in Paris and in Heidelberg where he made his doctor in medicine. Does that sound like a Filipino? Yes, he wrote a few books about life in the Philippines but does that give the colonial masters the right to put him to death? He was not even here most of the time as he was the doctor of the royal families, emperors and kings. Filipino should not think that this great man was shot dead at 6 am in Manila like a rabbit. He was not and he became the most secret great man of history, the owner of the Philippines and owner of all the gold in the global accounts.

Filipino people are the richest people on earth but they do not know. The Philippines was the richest country on earth under Ferdinand Marcos until the Americans took him out. They wanted the gold that Marcos had held after JPR. Marcos refused to sign the conditions of the Trilateral Commission. The money of the world is still blocked, the gold is still where Marcos put it and the financial world is in trouble as long as we do not tell the truth to the world. I am personally in charge of 400,000MT in the Central Bank of the Philippines. I am going to do what Marcos would have done. Any objection to that? I am listening.

Oh, I hear the argument that there is no more Central Bank of the Philippines. For Filipinos, that may be true. For Bank of England which had printed the ABL money since 1969 that may be an alltogether different story as they are sitting on the gold back-up for the only currency in the world that is truly backed by gold, some 105,000 MT in UBS. The story of the ABL may not be finished therefore. It may come to haunt the legacy of Cory and Fidel V. Ramos who acted on CIA order in 1993.

Thank you all for your attention. WS

Yes, but Jose Rizal did not die in 1896. Wolfgang Struck has shown how the purported execution of Rizal was faked: "For this excellent work of history telling. Actually, I believe that, for the Filipino mind that is mentioned, this is more compelling than my story-telling. You remember how I ask people who tell me about the execution of JP Rizal: "How do you know? Were you there?" Then they will say something to the effect that that is in all books, common knowledge, and not deniable, not even debatable. I hold that the colonizers of old, Spain and US, had exactly that in mind when they imprinted that picture of the falling JPR in the Filipino mind. Right they were. It stuck forever.

For many Filipinos it must feel like a sin to destroy their picture of national history. Don't worry it comes worse, much worse. Independence on June 12, 1898 was a joke, a bad joke as the betraying Americans were starting already the bloody Philippine-American war (after the magnificent seven had paid the $20 million to Spain) that would last until 1901 when they gave us, their brown brothers, the traitor Emilio Aguinaldo as non-functional "President", another joke in Philippine history but, admittedly, some parts of Philippine society live quite well on that. RCBC boss Cesar Virata claims to be a grandson of Aguinaldo and is reveled for that. OK, Cesar Virata the Finance Minister of Marcos during Martial Law years is also known as a traitor to his boss Ferdinand Marcos and the Filipino people, is he not?

Shall I say one more? Filipinos love to believe in the American lie that General Yamashita surrendered to them in Baguio. Look again. That was a Filipino in Japanese uniform. The one treated and executed in Los Banos was a deaf and mute also. No Japanese will visit the grave of Yamashita in Muntinlupa. They know that a general that high cannot surrender. He has to commit harakiri to safe his honor. Filipinos do not have honor. Filipinos have pride and amor proprio. On the other hand, forgive me, Filipino politicians do not even have delicadeza anymore. But who do I tell that to? You know that already."

    Good,
    Wolfgang

And it was not Ferdinand Marcos but his cousin who died in Hawaii in 1989. Everyone will benefit from the Global Debt Facility when their paper currency is exchanged for gold currency and they do not have to pay any interest on national debt.

Protesters expected the migrant children to arrive in Oracle for processing at a center near the border before being sent home, but no bus with migrants arrived on Tuesday.

Adam Kwasman, a Republican state representative who favors stronger border controls,
had joined a group of people in the town of Oracle,
protesting the expected arrival of migrant children.

The demonstrators complain that the federal government's response to the increase in new arrivals from Central America was putting their communities at risk.

Kwasman tweeted from the scene "Bus coming in. This is not compassion.
This is the abrogation of the rule of law."
Kwasman later said, "I was able to actually to see some of the children in the buses. And the fear on their faces ... This is not compassion," according to video broadcast on the site.

Told by a reporter that the children on the yellow school bus were actually YMCA campers, Kwasman said,

    "They were sad, too,"

Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop says he ordered the city to take down the memorial to 27-year-old Lawrence Campbell on Monday night.

Fulop says he won't let the residents who put up the mural pretend they express the views of the entire city.

The memorial had included candles, balloons, empty liquor bottles and message of love from friends scrawled on T-shirts taped to a brick wall.

Police say Campbell gunned down Officer Melvin Santiago early Sunday as he responded to an armed robbery call at a 24-hour pharmacy.

    Re: pictures

A motorist called police Thursday morning after seeing Paul MacLeod, 71, slumped in a chair outside the shrine known as Graceland Too, said Marshall County Coroner James Richard Anderson. He said there was no blood or trauma to MacLeod's body.

"It appears to be natural causes but it is pending until we get the autopsy," Anderson said.

MacLeod's death comes two days after police say he killed Dwight Taylor, 28, at the 1850s home that doubled as a museum. Police questioned and released MacLeod. No charges were filed. MacLeod attorney Phillip Knecht said Taylor forced his way inside, demanded money, and the two men fought before the shooting.

The museum is in Holly Springs, in the kudzu-covered hills of north Mississippi. It's about halfway between Presley's birthplace in Tupelo and his final home and resting place at the Graceland mansion in Memphis, Tennessee.

Graceland Too — which is not affiliated with Graceland or the Presley estate — became a pilgrimage for fans. People could arrive at any hour, pay $5 and get a tour from the hyper-caffeinated MacLeod, who said in 2009 that he drank 24 cans of Coca-Cola a day. Wearing his hair in a perpetual 1950s slicked-back do, he would tap-tap-tap on visitors' arms as he pointed out items in his floor-to-ceiling mishmash of photos, records, figurines, cardboard cutouts, clocks and other random kitsch featuring Elvis.

"My ex-wife told me, 'Make up your mind. Either me or the Elvis collection.' So that put an end to that," MacLeod, who named his son after the King of Rock 'n' Roll, told The Associated Press in late 2009.

MacLeod owned his home since the 1970s and said he started opening it to tourists in the late 1980s or early 1990s. Graceland Too attracted international tourists, and visiting there was a rite of passage for students from the University of Mississippi, 30 miles to the south.

Willie Carter, of McComb, said Thursday he toured Graceland Too five times while he was a student at Ole Miss. Like many others, he'd go with a group of friends around 2 a.m.

"It was extremely weird," Carter said. "You just went with it. He seemed to have a real love for Elvis and all things Elvis. You could tell he was sincere."

Floors would creak beneath visitors' feet. Doorways were decorated with several Elvis-patterned curtains in '70s-era hues of turquoise and lime. There were stacks of papers and magazines and MacLeod kept photocopies of a newspaper with his favorite headline: "Elvis Presley Excites Girls, Scares Critics."

In this undated photo provided by the Manteca Police Department are three Tillamook Cheese vans that were stolen Saturday July 12, 2014. Police in Central California are searching for three bright orange Tillamook cheese vans that were stolen over the weekend. Manteca police say the restored Volkswagen minibuses, worth $100,000 each, vanished early Saturday from a hotel parking lot. They were secured in a trailer pulled by a Ford F-350 pickup that also painted orange. Police say the minivans had stopped in Manteca on a tour promoting the Oregon-based Tillamook County Creamery Association’s dairy products. Photo: Manteca Police Dept., AP

MANTECA, Calif. (AP) — Two men were arrested Tuesday on suspicion of stealing three Volkswagen minibuses that were customized to look like bright orange Tillamook cheese loafs.

Brian Lancaster, 32, and Ryan Monaco, 38, both of Sacramento, were pulled over in Rocklin, California, and they were taken into custody by members of an auto theft task force, Manteca Police Chief Nick Obligacion said.

The minibuses, worth $100,000 each, were stolen Saturday from a hotel parking lot in Manteca, where they had stopped on a tour promoting the Oregon-based Tillamook County Creamery Association's dairy products.

A tip led investigators to the vehicles Monday in a storage locker about 50 miles away from Manteca. Obligacion said one of the suspects had rented the storage locker.

Lancaster and Monaco were being held for investigation of auto theft, possession of stolen vehicles, conspiracy and arson. It wasn't immediately known whether they have retained attorneys.

A truck and trailer that were part of the entourage were found torched and abandoned on Saturday.

The minibuses were found in their original condition.
