I sure hope they don't start changing other pieces from the historical collections and making them cheaper.
It is sad to me that Mattel is changing so much of what made Pleasant Company successful. If I wanted plastic doll items, I would buy them in a toy store.

Skittl1321, that was WAY funny!!!!!!!!!!ROFL
About the plastic/wood issue, I remember posts from the past where board members bemoaned how easy items were to break. Lots of folks said stuff like "I can't believe how breakable such n' such item is. Doesn't AG know kids play with these things?" and "Darling daughter played with it only five minutes and it broke!" Years ago the catalogs used to have little notices to treat items with tender loving care because they were heirloom quality and fragile. Perhaps too many AG owners weren't into tender loving care. As others have said, I'm sure AG was simply losing too much time and $ handling returns.
Added to that, I still think Mattel doesn't like handling manufacturing in anything other than plastic. Which is why I bought Addy's cast iron skillet and Josefina's farm so long ago when the rumors started that Mattel was buying the company.

F: Thanks so much for inviting me over today, tis awfully nice of you.
E: Would you like some tea?
F: No thanks, I'll take no tea today.
E: Oh. Well I've got this great tea set.
F: But I don't drink tea. If I still had a chocolate set available we could both have something to drink, because you don't have anything against chocolate, but I do have a reason for not drinking tea.
E: We could make chocolate in the tea pot?
F: Sure you get a big wooden stick and I'll stir it in this china pot. Hopefully nothing gets broken.
E: It would be easier if we had a tall metal pot and stick. That would be clever if something made it like that.
F: Yeah it's to bad whomever makes these things forgot that I lived right before the revolution when many americans weren't drinking tea.
E: Maybe we should forget the tea party and go play music instead.
F: My guitar's plastic, the sound is going to be all off.

Glad you all enjoyed
I to hope the guitar is wooden (one of the few accessories I have considered buying) and the chocolate pot stays.
So funny!!
I was at the Premiere and did not think it was plastic. I also saved Tracy's pic from the Premiere to my hard drive and zoomed in on the guitar. The only parts that look plastic to me are the little knobs that you turn to tune the guitar.
I'm hoping the PS's are miscommunicating the information. It won't be the first time.
I nominate Skittl1321 for the "Funniest Post of the Day" award we used to have going.
I hope that if these items are indeed plastic they did a darn good job disguising that fact. I don't know about the durability issue, but I do own several older wooden items (including the windmill), and the only item I've ever actually broken was that plastic hairclip that goes to the Paisley Dress outfit.

P.S. On a related note, does anyone know if Addy's lamp that comes with her sewing kit originally came with a glass top rather than a plastic one? I found that so disappointing as well.
I looked at pics from the premiere. The guitar does look plastic.
:-(
I'm sorry, this is so sad! If they are going to make it plastic, why charge $24? I could see if it cost less, but this is ridiculous. I guess though know some ppl will pay.
So, if I ever want Noah's Ark or Guitar, I will have to fork over big bucks on the secondary market.
