Yes, it is believed that islanders from the pacific populated the Hawaiian islands, as well as many of the islands along south america (such as easter island)
She could honestly be from anywhere. Race is not always easily determined by looking at someone's face. I'm biracial and I *never* have my race correctly interpreted by guessers. On Tuesday, I went to the DMV to get a new ID and the clerk wrote down that I was Latina. Close, but no cigar!
Check out this site on PBS.

It's called "Race: the power of the illusion." You get a series of photos and you try to guess which race the people pictured are. You'll quickly learn that it's not so easy to figure out what someone's racial background is by looking!
That would be cool if she were Hawaiin and a good idea too - AG'll be representing more of the USA.
It would be really neat if she lived in Hawaii and her book were about that.
Well we know her book isn't about her in Hawaii, the summary tells us that.
It would still be cool if she was from Hawaii
Very interesting site Collette. I didn't do too well, but the pictures were very small.
Yes, I agree that Jess could be Hawaiian as well.

She looks exactly like a friend of mine who is part Japanese, but nothing like my Brazilian friend. But Brazil is South America, not Central America. But don't Hawaiians have an Asian heritage?
