Velcro?

Do most MattelAG outfits use velcro to fasten outfits?
DoPM outfits have buttons or zippers?

I wish they would not use velcro. We store out clothes in bins and if you forget to close the dresses in the backthey will stick to the outfits. This happens alot when my daughter plays with them. Also I think the buttons and zippers would make them more realistic.

PM outfits use velcro too.

Actually Mattel often (maybe not on all outfits) uses a better velcro than Pleasant Company did (it might not have been invented when PC was around). It has a shorter catch on the "sticky" side, so while hair still gets caught in it, not nearly as badly. So really, it's an improvement there.

Edit to add: I think buttons would be more difficult, both for little hands and arthiritic older hands who are doing the buttoning because the little hands can't [img]smile.gif[/img]

As for zippers, that would probably be real nice, but I wonder if it would raise the cost. I sew and doll zippers are hard to find- surely AG could find them, and garner a steady supply, but velcro is much cheapier and easier for kids to use when dressing. As you mentioned it isn't easier for kids to use when storing [img]smile.gif[/img]

The old Purple Ice Skating Outfit uses snaps. I'm not sure what year it came out. It's the only outfit we have with them. Any others?

The Starry Night Outfit uses snaps instead of Velcro.

Marisol's Tap outfit uses the standard velcro, which I am terrified of since you can't get the fishnet tights as a replacement part! The new kind of velco that is less sticky is also a lot thinner, less bulky. Mattel uses it on a lot of Barbie things now. I prefer snaps and zippers too. Kit's skirt has a zipper, and a lot of my older AGOT outfits have snaps. Molly's Tennis outfit closes entirely with tiny red buttons.

The white ballet outfit (swan lake maybe?) uses snaps. There are a ton of little, tiny ones. They are much harder to use and they do pull off.

However, I agree that the velcro is a real problem with the tights especially. I am always reminding my dd to close the velcro on the outfits before storing them.

Caroline is getting better about making sure but when your having so much fun , you forget!

Molly's RT 66 dress buttons up the front and Sam's Travel Duster snaps. Kirsten's birthday apron used to button and now it velcros. Kirsten's Housecoat has tiny little buttons, too.

Marisol's tutu also has a snap (a large one) I haven't tried it on Marisol, but on my AGT it is near impossible to close.

One of the best solutions I've seen, and this is only used by a few of the seamstresses I've bought from, is to create a faux buttonhole with button and put a snap on the reverse side. It looks to all the world like a button (which we all agree would be difficult for small fingers), but has the ease of a snap. Very cool...
