I never could figure if it was the right to "bear" arms or the right to "bare" arms. Why anyone would want hairy bear arms is beyond me.

the scoped one is a Taurus .17LR. made for very long distance accurate shots. (say, oh i dunno, for a guy who may or maynot have a 300' long driveway)

the unscoped is a S&W 500. its basically a .50 cal diameter, but 3 times as long. the kick is roughly equvilant to getting hit in the hand with a baseball bat. this gun is made to eliminate the possiblity of dental ID'ing an intruder.

i always buy long barrel becuase we shoot long targets. minimum 100', more often 100 yrds...up to 600 yrds with rifles. anyone be accurate up close!

17HMR or 17Mach2? They have a nice flat tragectory, but they're useless on game after 150 yards.
And you don't need a long barrel to shoot 100 yards. A 6" will do fine. Now farther than that - yeah, you will need all the powder you can burn.
I've met a couple of guys with the new 500. What do they weigh - 4-5pounds? Have you seen anything on S&W's new 460 cartridge? They built in on the X frame, same as the 500. It zips out at over 2000 fps.
And what do you shoot for rifles? Target, hunting, service? 308, 338, bigger?
