It's pretty good. The art is not exactly my taste, but the story is strong enough to keep me at my toes. Defenitely not cheerful stuff, the contrast with the first miniseries couldn't be bigger...
Can't wait to see where this leads to.

Well, normally, for me art is at least 70% of the experience. If the art is good, the book is good, unless the storytelling really really sucks. But in this case I make an exeption. Not that the art is that bad or anything, but it seems a little stiff.
But it's intelligent storytelling, the kind we rarely see at Marvel. It is chilling in its realism. All the characters are well-written and believable. I like the priest character especially; he is a flawed individual. A dissapointed man and an alcoholic, but likable and recognizable because of it. Very well done. Kurt shows his flaws too, going "in like Flynn" as they say. Brash against better judgment, and for once, he doesn't get away with it. And then there's Beatta, who can't be saved because she has given up. What a tragic lot.
No fancy aliens, robots or evil shark wizards in this story, this time the enemy is real. This sort of stuff really happens in the real world, and no superhero can do anything about it. Nightcrawler can't win this one: even if he deals with this Oleg guy, there will be 10 others to take his place.
Depressing, but thought provoking read. "God loves, Man kills" comes to mind, even. If you're looking for a little vacation from dreary reality you better stay away from this one, and buy Millar's "The Ultimates" instead. Which was pretty cool too, but in a completely different way.
